The silicone is very soft and cuts very easily, Once it has a small nick in it you can tear it apart with very little force. I vote it's purely for aesthetics

Thanks mate , I have never used it for a liquid before but have used 5 layer for air (turbo induction) and found tearing or leaking was not an issue just the odd ballooning and even that was not consistant which is puzzling , I did however use the widest clamps I could find to avoid pinching.

The only silicone joiner in my car is for the intake, and it's purely because nowhere had a suitable rubber joiner.
Worst thing is it's hideous bright blue.

One end is slipped over the AFM, and held with a screw champ thing.
The other end is slid into the rubber base of the air filter and the rubber in clamped onto the silicone. (I put a hard sleeve inside teh silicone joiner to make it rigid, otherwise the filter would have nothing to clamp to)

yes, it's me bringing another old post back from the dead :)

I'm about to buy a full radiator hose kit for my NA8. I have previously used silicon upper and lower radiator hoses on a NA6 and found that they tended to leak, so I replaced them with OEM rubber ones.

Before I place my order is anyone one aware of a better deal on a hose kit?. I did look at getting it from mx5parts in the UK, but they only appear to be selling silicon hoses.

Silicone is supposed to last longer, but I don't know if we'll have the car long enough to find out haha.

For NA a set of genuine hoses is $130 from eBay USA.

Thanks Magna. I should have mentioned that I had seen the Kevlar sets.

As per the hidden link in my previous post, I'm looking at getting a set from Meccamiata on Ebay from the states. I've had less issues with the OEM hoses I've used in the past.

I had the kevlar radiator hoses from the UK, they developed small cracks after about 3 years and split about a year later.
I've gone silicon this time round so we'll see how long they last, I also took the opportunity to delete the metal pipe that joins the 2 bottom hoses together and got an NB bottom hose.

I've always used the traditional non-kevlar reinforced rubber hoses. No issues. They're still in very good condition, so they're going back on the resto. I sandblasted them for cleaning, as I sandblasted everything on the car. :-D Rubber loves it.

So, I ended up ordering a full set of original Mazda coolant hoses from Miatamecca

One week door to door from Arizona to Melbourne is pretty good. Paid around Aud$190 landed.
