you would have to look at the legislation to see what it covers. Component parts may have a duty content- they did in the past- but if memory serves its not applicable under $1000 anyway. The FTA of course are not free for most items. Aust was so stupid to drop its commercial pants while the rest of the world were smart enough to set up the barriers to protect themselves or at least try to. One of the main reasons we have dumped a car industry is because pollies and the public failed to recognise that these industries don't survive without being tended and watered and getting liberal amounts of fertiliser. Those expecting cheaper cars might also think twice- the 5% is on the "wholesale" price and there is absolutely nothing to stop the sellers from taking that amount to make their viability that little bit better. Other fools are already saying we have no car industry when it still has some years to run- lets just kill the workers and component suppliers a little earlier- no one will notice.
