A stock mx5 is heaps of fun around mountain roads. Where the corners are tight and the straights are short, there's not many cars (for the money) that can keep up.
Mod as much as you want, they're cheap cars relatively speaking. Just take it slow, there's nothing worse than doing everything at once and not being able to tell which of your mods have been effective.
You'd be surprised what your stock car can do, most likely you'll run out of talent miles before it does.

Re: The road defines the car
Plenty of guys are wanting to mod MX5s before they have got the car and have plans to do all manner of things. Other guys run stock cars but use them extensively. There is really not much wrong with a standard car. In the days of old Holdens you made changes because cars were so basic

To me the gear ratios are perfect for the car. Other cars like the Boxster, the gear ratios are too ambitious for our road conditions. However at speed, the steering is vague and you can feel that your body is bending with the stock chassis, more so with the roof down. I'm a fan of the stock suspension set up and have left it as is, more than adequate with how I drive.
This suggests to me that the suspension on your NA is tired.

When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

I agree with Taminga maybe there is a problem- my NB steers a treat and its one of the great features of the car.

Re: The road defines the car
Re Khlmx5's comment: My car is stock standard and I can see no reason to make any mods at all. The body is tight and the handling crisp and I would not sacrifice ride comfort for one iota more handling.
The steering is sharp at any speed and is by far the best feature of the vehicle. You are either into mods or you aren't. I have never modded any car I have owned and never will. If I want more performance I buy a car that delivers it in standard form.
If you 'track' your car regularly then that is a different situation all together.

Re: The road defines the car
Great to know alot of you out there enjoy a stock 5. Does any of you have a stock na6 and how do you find the speed? I havent dríven mine na6 yet but i find it a bit slow, so shud i be keeping the car high rev on this car to get the truth out of it?
In regards to steering vague, do ur car come with p/s? For some reason without p/s, when i m driving at normal speed and do a turn, the steering feels heavy, compare to other non p/s car i have dríven. Is this normal on na6?
