I just asked about something simular in ACT.

no cage, no sparco.

air filter needs to be in a box, or if its open paper type needs to have wire reinforced or something.

It sure was easy in qld! Fingers crossed I have a similar experience in Vic.

Hopefully i don't have to lose the roll bar and seats. Its funny how they add safety but are likely to cause the biggest issues

So great news!

I called vicroads and asked them about mods from another state. They said that if it is registered in another state and the mods have been approved (mod plated, engineered etc) that I just rock up and change the plates over. No inspection.

So vicroads accept mod plates and engineer certificates from other states no questions asked if the mod plates are on the car and that the car is still registered.

Very easy process! I have come to the right place!

That is good news.
I would however get that in writing as it wouldn't be the first time that a Vicroads agent has said one thing over the phone and then when you rock up and get another agent, the answer has changed...

Ultimately the person at the RTA counter when you arrive is who decides whether your car gets the box ticked at the computer terminal.

Its very frustrating but in theory that's right in all states but the person at the RTA might not have a clue.

We engineered a car a month or 2 ago and the RTA person told him it had to also go get a blueslip. So then everyone else at the whole RTA sided with that person and he had to go to a different RTA who put it through immediately without question.

It's a bit like the police, given the authority to decide but not given the training to know when or why.

I would've got the VicRoads phone person's name, so at least you can prove a conversation took place and that advice was given.

Can back that up - VicRoads can be a whole basket of inconsistencies sometimes.

I didnt catch her name unfortunately :/

She booked me in for a basic rego swap, just like any registered interstate car. She said that I dont even need to take the mx5 in for the swap - its apparently just a few pieces of paperwork. And she went and checked with her boss and he also said that I only need the standard rego swap and that the existing modplates/engineer certs are accepted by vicroads.

By the sounds of it, to have the car physically looked over is a different booking, a different cost and probably an extra headache for the person at the vicroads counter.

I may be being optimistic but I think its looking good. Ill find out in a bit over a week I suppose.

FINAL OUTCOME

So, after being told it didnt need to be inspected I had a look at my partners paperwork for her car and it had a section for modifications asking for viv certificate numbers (Victorias equivalent of modplate I am assuming).

I called them to see what I should do about that section, knowing that it wouldnt go down well at the counter. And then it all came unraveled (which I was kind of expecting).

The first person I spoke to said that the mods arent on nevdis and that they have to be on nevdis. Because the car was registered in QLD i had to fill out their paperwork and have them put it onto nevdis. Turns out you have to hand the original copies of engineer certs to TMR. Meaning i had to post them and get a friend to do it for me in QLD. TMR said to call vicroads back up and check because that sounds wrong.

I did, and the next lady i spoke to said its all messed up and put me up the chain. In the end they got hold of a modplate guru from vicroads and he said that if I had the ORIGINAL mod plate, engineer certifates AND the modplates attached to car that those modplates will be accepted by vicroads. But that it would need to be inspected to make sure the paperwork and modplates line up. She wrote all that on my file, which the guy at front counter read. He did the inspection and gave it the all clear. He updated their system so the mods should be fully certified for victoria.

Thank *****!

What I would suggest for anyone with mods in QLD, take the certificates to TMR and have them put on the system - that might save some headache. The modplater SHOULD have done it but i bet they didnt just like my 2 didnt.

Hey, it worked out at least.

Interesting about the VIV, usually those are only used for cars that have been damaged in accidents etc.

Now that its registered here, keep paying rego and never have to deal with the bastards again.
