We used to have in common between all the mx5 is the side indicators. But the ND has given up the circle one. I guess they are really totally new design. A bit sad that no more traditional Mazda smiling face and changed to something looks like a 86. And the tail is just so Alfa spider.

I suspect we'll see two versions land here in OZ......

- A 1.5 litre basic version for around the $40K mark on the road which you can add options to.
- and a 2.0 litre version with all the fruit for $50K+ on the road.

What part of "NEAR OZ $30,000," do you guys not understand?

My guess is near means $32-35k +orc and for that you will be getting a warmed Mazda 2 engine and Mazda 2 interior.

Until Mazda Australia release official figures, it's all just speculation, even by the journos.

Except North America that never got them.

Will potential buyers want it in the 1600cc form? (I wouldn't)
If the basic 2 litre sells here for less than $45K incl ORC, I will walk starkers to the Gulf.
Good Luck the dreamers.

Insofar as predictions are concerned these were more interesting before the release. The basics are simple -Mazda have to pitch pricing and product which is competitive with the 2 door sports coupes i.e. 86/BRZ and also have some benchmark to WRX and some other hot hatches. Whilst the cars are not all the same category there still has to be some comparability. For Australia is does not matter what they do in UK or US etc- we are interested only in our market. Its already known that Mazda or for that matter any maker does not always release the same models and choices.
The price of the NA when released has zero to do with today- that was 25 years ago!

Since when is the smiling face traditional for the MX5? That was the thing that roooooooined the NC, unless you are lucky enough to own an NC1 with the traditional OVAL grill that is!

I suspect/hope that the 1.5L version will be destined for the European market and we'll just get the 2.0L version.

Even if we only get the 2.0L they can still do a cheaper entry model. Cloth interior, smaller wheel/tyre combo, no GPS or app sync, no leather trim/red stitching etc to dash or steering wheel, no chrome highlights etc etc ....

LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE, BEYOND SOME REALLY SHITTY IMAGES IN VERY POOR LIGHT, COMMENTS BY A DESIGN ENGINEER WHO WAS CLEARLY OUT OF HIS DEPTH AND A CRAP BAND FROM THE EIGHTIES, WE KNOW PRECIOUS LITTLE, BEYOND WHAT THE CAR MIGHT LOOK LIKE.
LET'S JUST WAIT UNTIL IT GETS HERE.
THERE ARE PEOPLE HERE WHO SELL MAZDA'S FOR A LIVING THAT KNOW LESS THAN SOME OF US PROFESS TO.
A 2.0 litre, 960 kg MX5 will not happen! Mazda have given far too much leeway to their marketing agents.

And as a footnote, I am sick of seeing that shitty Soul Red!
GREG.

P.S. 960 kgs for an NA in Aus was always a dream, side intrusion bars and door clasps saw to that!
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Body coloured upper doors will not be an option for the base model either apparently (from reading other forums).

Lemme see...

No ipad on the dash (just a small display possibly?)
No body coloured door sills
Cloth interior
No chrome highlights
Potentially still a 2.0L mill

And a choice of aftermarket 17" wheel?

Sounds fantastic to me - and if I'm really lucky, Lokiel will talk to me again. Maybe.

Unless I go for this aftermarket "option", sans spoiler: (which I REALLY like, even with 18" 3MPS wheels)

And look Taminga, it's not Soul Red! (Which I'm sick of too, it looks better in almost any other colour!!)

Taminga has his say and I pretty much agree then the next post is more speculation and another silly photo.

Funny thats what the US guys say too. I disagree, the smart move for Mazda is to secure vaible volume by selling to Allison down the street who wants a sexy version of a Mazda 2. A $30+ grand Mx-5 makes perfect sense with the tie in with Fiat.

What most journalists and the forum warriors forget is that the main motor industry does not revolve around motoring enthusiasts like us.

Me I am liking a 5 with a tuned Abarth 1.4 turbo (but I am a weirdo)

I sell Mazdas for a living and I'm quite happy to tell everyone everything I find out as soon as I find it out. Hopefully that'll help avoid the need for further guesswork, conjecture and wishful thinking?
