There's an LS7 7.0L V8 roadster currently for sale and is fully engineered. Only problem is it isn't a Mazda..

This would give you a 2 seater that you can take the top off, have a 710hp V8, and weighing only 980kg wet gives you an acceptable power-to-weight ratio.

Re: Any legally registered MX5 LS V8s in Australia?
makes you wonder why you wouldn't go with a smaller V8 that liked to rev a bit more.
Aren't the LS motors all pushrod-type?
DOHC, 3l 8,000rpm v8 would be a cracker

1uz or 3uz vvti would be under the capacity guidlelines and are an amazing motor but the power isnt amazing, and from what ive read there is hardly any aftermarket.
The engine also has to be out of the same model year or newer car as your putting it into so if your using an NC that makes it pretty hard.

There's dreaming and reality - the LS is realistic.

I am dreaming. Just throwing thoughts around. If I was going to go V8, I'd be definitely looking at something small capacity.
My reality is an inline 4 and a reasonable sized turbo

The LS is much smaller because is it pushrod. DOCH V8s, even lower capacity ones, are huge and you'd have a pretty awful time getting it to fit.

Re: Any legally registered MX5 LS V8s in Australia?
Yeah, pushrod V8s tend to be a bit more compact since the camshaft and lifters are positioned in the empty space of the V
The head just holds the valves and some rockers to open/close them.
Whereas OHC (and especially DOHC) ones the cams need the heads to accomodate the cams, lifters, as well as the valves, and the necessary gears and belts to drive the cams.

Pushrods or no, an LSx loves a rev.
They don't do it for me, but there is a number of reasons why they are the default motor for conversions.
