Quick play with remote flashes tonight, don't think I've ever tried them on a dark colour before. Very hard to get even light spread, especially without big flares from the flashes.
Practice practice practice.

Does your camera have a bulb setting (holds the shutter open) and a tripod? If it does you can stop your lens down and use a long exposure, then what you do is get a bright led type light and shine it onto spots on your car to highligh certain sections, the light will need to be kept on for a few seconds on each spot. Once you do a few you will be able to judge exposure time and you can open the appature a bit. Don't open the apature too far as you will loose depth of field and exposure time will be reduced.
Example:
30 sec at f/4.5 led head lamp pointed on the nose (you can see its path )
Longer exposure 119 secs at f/4.5 and a led headlamp on the instrument cowl facing backwards, ambient light at the front is from the house lights hence the warmer colour.

I do know the basics of light painting, haven't had too much practice though. I do know it's less useful on dark paint because the light reflections will be worse than a single spread light source from a diffused flash. I'm not a huge fan because of the streaks. You can put them in less obvious places with practice, but you can only get rid of them fully by extensive editing.

Re: Most recent/favourite pictures of your car
I will be hopefully doing some experiments with the studio flash/reflectors/umbrellas/stands etc when I am home (I just have to find my remote triggers). I also have a dark green and black car that I can try out on. Since the flash have adjustable output I should be able to get it soft enough and use a slow sync. As I also have a light meter that can trigger the flash I can do light readings without having to use the camera to experiment with first.
If I have any luck I will note the settings and then PM them to you if you like.
Or a pretty girl looks even better with a MX5?

Perhaps we could make a suggestion to the mods about starting a few colour specific sticky threads in the Body section and a post your interior shots sticky thread in the interior folder..similar to what the yanks do over at clubroadster.net. It would be great to see all our aussie roadster pics in just a couple of threads.
Anyways, here's a few of my Mariner Blue NA6 that I took today.
It's a thing of beauty!!
Bump to bring some colour back...
If this thread takes off, maybe we can break it up into separate colours, it all depends on the submissions here.
This is a show off your car thread, not an experiment with your photo techniques thread. If you want to do that, please start a separate thread. I'd subscribe to it, and I'm sure others would be too.
Peace.

Nice pics, Danny.
BTW, any plans to bring in more NB hardtops, preferably in racing green with demisters?

Whatever we can find we try and get Kev. They're all a bit light on the ground at the moment.
Cheers,
Danny
