10AE owners

Hi guys, I have become quite addicted to his forum and hours on it. i also spend a fair bit of time admiring the curves on my car. I've never owned a sports car and the MX5 is an amazing looking one. Little jag, little viper, IMHO. Even for its age, it is a thing of beauty and Mazda have achieved something really special here.
How many 10AE owners are there in this forum and have you left your car stock or made improvements. If so, what would you suggest. 150 of this model in Australia, does make it special, so why alter it?
Your thoughts are appreciated.

Limited editions such as the 10AE and SP should be kept as close as possible to stock to maintain their value - as a habitual modder, I MUST never buy one of these cars.

Buying a top model car which is rare, because its a limited addition and is a fantastic base for mods, but then not modifying it to keep its value is the equivalent of buying a porsche... boxter.

Subsie,
You have already fallen, do to your car the things that you feel that it needs but above all drive it.
After all if it was meant to sit in a darkened room and be polished every week, it would have a leg in each corner and be called a table.
Enjoy.
Greg.
P.S. I miss the curves of my NB. It had 'hips' my NC has shoulders.

Thanks for your responses guys. I drive it as much as I can with a 30km return trip every Sunday, top down. With our summer heat in the mid 40's I use it before sunset a lot. Unfortunately we are restricted to 100kph too. Still would like to know how many 10AE owners are out there across the country. I hear there is another MX5 in my town, but I am yet to see it on the road.

I love the 10AE, reckon it's the best MX5 built, there were a few things I didn't like so I changed them...

Subsie- I agree with you about the NB- I reckon its a fabulous shape and probably the last sport cars of the older era. The comparo to Jag is certainly there and the lines are genuinely svelte. NCs are excellent cars but the NB is far more traditional and I think a bit more involving -each to our own.

Subsie - I have a 10AE as you know. I feel that I don't want to change too much as it is a limited edition, whether this is right or wrong. I have also had my days were I poured dollar after dollar into a car only to get bored of it and sell it and lose lots. I enjoy this car as it stands anyway.
One thing I will say, to say there were only 150 brought to Australia, in the last 12 months I have seen 10 on carsales, a wrecked one at the auctions, a wrecked one on eBay last week, two good ones on eBay and three on gumtree. There are two garage threads on here with people who had them, and there is at least three of us who currently own them (you, Lou and I). For a "rare" they seem to come up for sale a fair bit

Boyracer, you should get the MX5 Plus numberplate bracket, your numberplate is blocking off a lot of air.
I love the shape of the NB, it's got a few extra curves than the NA and looks timeless.

my NB has a slimline number plate in the grille opening and no adverse effects at all and it improves the appearance.

Yeah no overheating trouble, that's where I fit all my number plates except on turbo.
As far as originality and collect ability it's a MX5 not a Ferrari Daytona, 10AE WAS OVER $50k new, I sold a dead stock original one last year for $7800... There has also been a SP which were over $60k sold for $14k...like everything else it comes down to what you like and what you want to do with your car, nobody is ever going to get rich collecting MX5s.

Boyracer is right but you lose even more with Mercs BMs and Italian exotics. THe MX5 is easily the best value sports car available to enthusiasts.

I like the look of the nb8b lights but I will try to keep mine stock. It is affordable and a better buy than the 928S4 I was looking at for the same money. Best bang for your buck roadster around, agreed.
