hairdressers car ?

I've had my 1996 na8 now for nearly 1 months, and I just don't get the, " girls car", its "gay" ect jibes, my mx5 at the moment is pretty stock, I've done a few cosmetics, ie new black leather seats, maz speed carbon fibre gear knob and waiting for new instrument cluster from revlimiter in the U.S and pioneer audiophile series head unlt
this car drives better than anything I,ve ever owned, my D D is an xr6 ute, is that gay as well------- all I know is that my mx makes me smile------- alot :NA8:

I'm not a hairdresser or gay (but then I'm also not a guy

) & I love my 5
Anyway, last time I checked, hairdressers don't want to mess up their hairdos in a convertible (:P)

This thread is the perfect opportunity to create a database of suitable responses.
My favourites.

"Do they sell men's hats where you got that". (for hat wearers)
"Your hair really does appear to need a treatment".
And for dual cab utes with every seat occupied I find that "ƒü¢k OFF! there are only four of you". works fairly well.

Although, I must admit I was caught sort on one occasion when a fellow with designer stubble and wearing a high fashion crap print shirt whilst driving a monkey sh*t brown shopping trolley said "Nice car, Is it your wifes'? left me speechless.

Hairdressers charge up to $25 per male haircut nowadays.

In saying that, the MX5 must be a somewhat prestigious car if you can earn $75-100 an hour for cutting hair & still decide to own a MX5

Edit: Oh, you're from Toowoomba. Just add a bull bar, a chevy badge, the standard OEM tall aerial, some fogs & RM Williams mud flaps and you shall see abuse towards you take a down turn!

The first mx5 owner i met after i bought my NA was a gay male hair dresser so I just assumed gay hairdressers had great taste in sports cars.

You - "Yep, girls love it - you must (or obviously if there is a car load of them) get a lot of boys with your Commodore (or other suitably bogan machine)."

Unfortunately there is a high bogan contingent in Toowoomba, so it is somewhere where you're likely to get that attitude a lot. But no the XR6 ute isn't gey either, except perhaps in the eyes of the HSV fan boy.

The hairdresser's car name is meant to be in reference to "All style, no substance".

These cars have both, so the uneducated should either be educated by hanging on for dear life in the passenger's seat through the twisties, or trying to keep up with you in their own car. Just remember your manners and wish them luck before setting off.

love the reply about the rm Williams--------not sure that the aerial and bulbar quite suit the look i'm going for, as for the xr6 she has been a reliable workhorse, 198,000 km and not missed a beat-----was lucky with the mx5 i'm the 3rd owner and its only done 116.524km, came with logbooks, its just so much fun to drive, hope to maybe track it sometime in 2014 :NA8:

I think the sentiment is changing around the "hairdresser" image is starting to change... I feel that people are beginning to see the mx5s the way that we do.

Might get the odd hairdresser comment here and there... but it's far outweighed by the people that see it as a enthusiast's dream car these days.

The best way to put them off their stride is to agree with them, they don't know what to do.....
Works particularly well if you have a turbo!

It's out there in the ether- but many people have never heard the expression however mentioning it just expands the currency. MX5s are certainly not what one would describe as macho vehicles. Telling others how well your car handles is not going to impress the bloke with the behemoth 4WD with roll bars and adorned with enough lights to see 2 KLMs or a Camaro with lake pipes and tyres as wide as a park bench and noisier than a 747 at 250 metres- you get brushed off quicker than a fly at a barbie. Lets face it we are a bit woosy this clan of little roadster fanciers and Greg will know in future to agree that the car is indeed either his sisters or someone else but not his.
