Has anyone actually made a claim with Shannons of their heavily modified car (mods disclosed to insurer) and been asked for an Engineering Certificate?
I believe the claim process (simplified) is;
-Take your car to your own repairer
-Shannons send out an assessor
-Assessor will see the disclosed mods (Engineering Cert?)

This was touched on in a few threads but not really answered.
Another way to state the above;

Let's say you're in Qld and you've modded your car requiring a Mod Plate. What if you haven't got the Plate. Will Shannons deny your claim?

Have you considered approaching Shannon's?

Relucant at the moment, as it's all conjecture (thinking about getting a policy with them).

If you disclose ALL the modifications to any insurer then they will make the decision if they will offer you insurance.

I guess I will find out the day I need to make a claim, as I have my car with Shannons with all the modifications disclosed. The lack of an engineering certificate for the emissions (running ITB's) will be a point of interest then when I claim.

If its not engineered its not legal giving them a pretty good reason to deny your claim.

Call them and ask.

Yes to making a claim for such vehicles, but wasn't asked for an Engineering Cert/mod plate etc. The insurers can get that info from the authorities, so they don't need to be asking the vehicle owner...

Depends what the claim is I suppose. If the "illegal" mods contributed to the need to make a claim, then yes you would have to expect that you won't be getting your claim paid. Get a copy of their PDS and read it, that will give you all the answers!

I would imagine that this would include any third parties cost as well, is it any wonder that our insurances are so expensive?

Incidentally, It is an offence to falsify any details on a contract including omissions regarding modifications.

Hence why I disclosed ALL my mods to Shannon's as they could not deny the claim due to lack of disclosure.

As said, only Shannons can answer my questions.

Mine wasn't an engineering mod, but they valued my new paint job at $9K, even though I told them it only cost me $8K. & they paid out the full $18K we'd agreed to value my 95 LE at, within 7 days of my GF writing it off. That's why I'll be insuring my new SE Ti with them.

As you're up in Kuranda(?), how did they approve your paint job and later assess your claim? Did you just take it to your own panel beater (and they would've sent an assessor)?

I'm in Mission Beach, but my GF crashed my car in Millaa Millaa. They didn't send an assessor anywhere near the car. in fact they actually lost the car for a while, as it languished in a holding yard in Malanda. But just they took one look at this photo & approved my claim.

I meant to post this in the earlier thread, but the impressive thing with that photo is the undamaged state of the car from the A pillars back - the windscreen and driver's side door look undamaged, which bodes well for the state of the passenger cell. Impressive for such a small, light car.

Whilst sad for the loss of the car, glad it put up such a fight looking after its driver.
