Broken NC sunvisor

I've owned my 2006 NC for a bit over a year and the driver's side sunvisor was always a bit wonky. Anyway, today it decided to break and won't stay up as the plastic has split along the top near the windscreen. I doubt that it is repairable and I'm sure a new original visor from Mazda will be outrageously expensive. Anyone have a suggestion for a source for a good second hand visor?

There are a few NC's being wrecked on eBay. I'd imagine you could just get the whole header panel with both visors.

Thanks Regie

I've sent off a couple of emails to the Ebayers. Also discovered that Mania sell them for $110 + postage. Will be interesting to see how much they are from Mazda.

After a bit of Googling I see that my experience is not at all unusual - due to the crap engineering of the visor (metal pin in plastic sheath - what were they thinking!).

There's a good thread on Miatanet about the issue and fitting the visor: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=421677&highlight=remove.

Also worth emailing Chris at Targa Racing as they may have one:

Fixed mine recently. :DIY:
Nothing a drill, some screws and glue couldn't fix.
If you do it neatly you almost can't tell.

Remove the black plastic panel holding the visor.
6 x Torx bolts I think, and a couple of plastic clips.
One of the A Pillar was also unclipped slightly to allow for removal.
Disconnect the interior light cable.

Once removed you will see 1 screw for each visor holding the metal clip which locates the plastic pin which inserts into the visor.
When you remove this you can pull the plastic pin to remove the visor from the panel.
Make sure you note the orientation of the plastic pins as I think they only work correctly one way.

The problem is the visors crack and this allows them to rotate around the pins instead of causing the pins to rotate.

I removed the visor and then drilled 2 small holes through it into the locating pin which I had reinserted into the visors.
And I then put some small self tapping screw through this. One from each side.
I also drilled some small holes to locate some cable ties to assist the process of holding them together.

You will need to remove the screws to locate the visors back in the panel.
Then insert the pin and then the screws through both sides.
I added glue for good measure.

I'll take some photos and upload them.

Hope this helps. :)
