People need to take a deep breath on this one, there's a lot of things we don't know yet about the 2.0 version of this engine....
What we don't know;
- What the final specs will be (or even if they've been finalised yet), the 155hp/148tq numbers are the official 'development' targets.
- What version of the SAG 2.0 it will be, they come with 12:1, 13:1 & 14:1 compression ratios.
- What fuel it is designed to run on, 91/95/98 RON?
- Whether the Euro/Aus markets will get the same 2.0 engine as the US market.
- What the redline will be.
- Will it get a lighter flywheel than the garden variety SAG?
What we do know:
- The ND version will have a unique intake, exhaust and possibly cylinder head and/or cams.
- The ND version will have a unique tune (confirmed by Mazda) for the application (ie. can be tuned for more power & less torque in the light weight sports car application than the DD car design).
- The ND will be a lighter car than the equivalently equipped NC, by how much we don't know exactly yet, but it will likely be somewhere between 50-100kg.
People also need to stop being so hung up on a single 'peak' number, 'area under the curve' is probably just as, if not more, important!
Comparisons have been made over on the big forum between the garden variety MZR 2.0 & SAG 2.0 and the SAG has significantly more power everywhere up to 6000 RPM, how much time (other than on track days / racing) do you really spend over 6000 RPM?
I think the best option for all concerned is to be a little patient and see what is officially released and more importantly how it actually drives in the real world rather than on paper!
