http://www.mynrma.com.au/get-involved/a ... es-ban.htm After a successful campaign to halt the issuing of Bright Lights number plates, the NRMA is claiming a win in our fight to have them recalled.
Bugger

I like my red on black number plates but understand why they are being recalled.
Bit cruddy that you will be charged a fee if you don't like the new colour forced on you and want to change it though.

I'm surprised they don't just fine the owners for having illegible plates. My old boss got fined for his plates being illegible years ago when QLD switched from green on white to maroon on white. The first few thousand plates didn't hold the paint and became unreadable after only a couple of months. They didn't do a recall, just fined the drivers who don't check their plates daily to make sure they weren't manufactured poorly.

Their money making efforts fail. You'd think they'd check that first.

They look fine to read for me.

It just goes to show that State Govts are incompetent and more interested in making money than in being responsible. How they could make such an obvious mistake shows that there was inadequate testing i.e. the real purpose of a plate is legibility. No one of course is forced to pay for personalised plates and presumably if the replacement is not what a buyer wants then they should be able to revert to standard.

I agree Morlock.
I'm sick of seeing stupid style plates with Mickey Mouse pictures or love hearts.

Not surprised, these plates look fine in studio photos but in the real world with sun reflecting at odd angles they can be quite hard to read.
The whole coloured plates thing has become such a joke in NSW. First they outsource it and charge a fortune for them, then run ads promoting the variations on offer, then resort to literally advertising how ugly the standard plates are.

Try the 'lipstick deep red' letters/numbers on black here in QLD
As far as I am concerned they are almost impossible to read at any time

The only checks they would have done is that they can b read by speed cameras.

There's a blue on on black or blue on dark blue (never figured out which) that is almost impossible to read too.
White on black. Works on any colour car, and it's still readable. Perfect.

This is the bit that surprises me.....
Roads minister Duncan Gay confirmed all 9604 Bright Lights holders will be asked to mail in their plates in exchange for replacements, which are larger and printed in brighter tones with a coloured border.
What are these people supposed to do while they are waiting for their replacement plates to be delivered?

Apparently I await an email saying that they are ready.
They then post them to me with a reply paid satchel that I send my plates back in.
At least I'll be able to see them side by side before sending mine in.
Iv seen the replacement blue colour.
It's like a pale pastel colour. Really gross.
I'm not holding my breath that the red will be any better.
$279 or something if I want to change to basic white on black. What a rort.

You could always 'accidently' put the new ones in the return satchel......
With your car and wheel combo I think the white and black would work fine, then again white writing on a red background would work fairly well too.
