How unlucky and lucky for these new owners...

Mazda is taking the high road and replacing the first wrecked 2016 MX-5 Miata.

After taking delivery of a brand new MX-5, the owner and his wife were less than a mile away from the dealership when they got rear-ended by a Ford F-150 pickup. The accident pushed the brand new Miata into the car in front of it, resulting in damage to both the front and rear end of the roadster. Thankfully, both passengers in the Miata didn’t suffer any serious injuries, although the owner’s wife did take a trip to the hospital with the EMTs while the owner went to the Care Spot facility a day later to get checked out.

Happy for the owners, they must be relieved that the car was written off.
I'm happy that the F-series isn't sold here, I don't know how you would see an mx5 driving a car that ridiculously big.

On the upside it gives them the chance to rectify the mistake of ordering it in red!

Yeah it's great that Mazda North American Operations took this on and replaced it. I think they plan to fix it.

Interestingly, this was not the first Launch Edition (LE) lost/destroyed. It seems that one was lost before it made it to the USA, and they built a replacement 1001 LE, keeping the count at 1000.

All the LEs are Soul Red.
Not a fan of red myself too, it's a bit cliche.. and just seems to yell out "I drive this because I can't afford a Farrari". Just my thoughts on it.

No worries. Happy to be flagged up for assisting with the spelling of that particular brand name, which is close to my heart as I used to sell them - and of course, now I'm also a name dropper.

Youd think on a brand new car they would have insurance before they left the dealer

They probably did. But it is a golden opportunity for a PR stunt by a company.

Plus I believe they took the wreck so can see how it stood up to a real worl impact. You can do all the lab testing in the world but nothing beats real world data.

IIRC it was covered but it was more a case of Mazda securing them a car in the next batch as a replacement.

Haven't been in the car finance game since the very late '90s, but it was sometimes a grey area immediately after delivery particularly if the car was under finance with a few little legal gaps whilst title transfers all went through. That said, in the couple of incidents where people wrote off cars literally on the way home from the dealer, I never heard of anyone being left exposed by being uninsured.

I think it improves the looks.
