How long before the first of the new shape CX-9s gets totaled in an accident and 186kW/420Nm of 2.5 Skyactiv turbo gets dropped into an MX-5?

Why doesn't mazda put it in there and show the Italians who really builds the best mx5?

The V6 has more power. They use the current CX9 motor in some race cars.

Assuming the engine would fit, I think there would some issues about fitting a strong enough gearbox and differential in it (and propshaft and PPF and....). That 2.5 turbo engine has double the torque of the ND 2.0, and more than my tow car! All in all, a massive redesign would be required of what is a light weight sports car to convert it to a not so light weight sports car. Nah, won't be happening. Just wait for the next RX.

It's not going to fit. The ND was designed around the 1.5, not the 2.0.

I was 'avin a larf. But if the 2.5 Skyactiv can have a turbo, hopefully the 1.5 and 2.0 can too.

170kw out of 2.5L (regular 91RON fuel) suggests this engine is tuned for nothing more than torques and max economy (it has massive EGR apparently). Max power at 5000rpm proves it.
Reminds me of the eta engines BMW had in the 80s. 2.7L straight six with a redline at 5000rpm. Meant to benefit economy.

For a Track Car the LS3 will likely fit, mule cars are being experimented with in USA.
