i take it that its a jap import one?

they are around half the cost of a domestic market car meaning you have alot more $$$ to spend on it.

i would imagine that an import MX5 kitted out for racing would cost not much more than a new Aus registered road car

All the above is very true. My point was more that the car itself looks fairly imacculate, and I'm surprised it was bought for what I would assume would be cheap, which makes me wonder whether there was anything wrong with it that we just can't see due to the camera angle.

it is damaged, can be seen in the reflection of the first pic if you look close enough, passenger side, it's also clear this panel has been removed if you look at the stripped out pictures

Good eye
I glanced at the reflection when the pics first materialised, but I guess I was distracted by the Roadster Coupe behind the glass rather than focusing on the race car

It had a damaged L/H/F guard that needs replacing. If you look really, really closely you can see a slight dent at the edge of the bootlid, and there is a mark on the rear bumper bar.

As it is a race car this sort of cosmetic stuff is no problems to us. Couple of stickers here and there and then its time to hit the track. Spend a Sunday afternoon with the Prod Sports guys and there is a good chance there will be a couple of new marks........

Yes, all out NC race cars are Jap spec ones. The cost of setting up an Aust Complied unit is waaaaaaay to much. As we can get Unregistered Vehicle Permits for up to 28 days for ANY of them you can have the best of both worlds. As most people acknowledge, once the car is set up as a full race car with cage, seat, harness, suspension, exhaust and the like they are not the best car to drive on a day to day basis. As all the Targa type events allow for unreg permits to compete the Jap import way is clearly the most cost effective. With the permits you can drive to and from the event no problems.

Lotus Australia have been running there 2-Eleven around for the last 6 months this way. It can never be \"complied\" but is ok to drive as a \"evaluation\" vehicle with a permit. Same applies to our race cars. You just sign a statement and pay for the permit at the RTA. No inspection is necessary and the car just need to meet the minimum road requirements. Great way for people to get into a budget race car without needing trailers and tow vehicles. With the FOSC type events and the chance of a MX5 Race Series in NSW gaining support - nows a great time to get involved!!!
