Wheels and tyres for my 2F car?

Hey guys,

One of the first things I'll need for the new race car are wheels and tyres. Correct me if I'm wrong but the standard wheels on my 94 NA8 appear to be 14 x 6\" with a 45mm offset?

From what I've seen so far most guys seem to run 15\" wheels with 205/50/15 tyres. Are they generally 15 x 7\" rims? Is there a preferred offset in terms of setting up track width etc? I've seen a few 15x 7\" wheels advertised on MX5 mania, are these worth considering? The car is strictly for the track so road legality is not really an issue but weight and price will be my main considerations.

I understand that some information is hard earned and some may not want to share, but any recommendations for wheels or tyres would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Paul.

Go for the 15x7, not the 15x6 as the 205's in stickies are more like 211-220 wide and they buldge on a 6 inch rim.

Tyres choices can be Dunlop D02, Toyo R888 etc. The racing guys will chip in with what they recommend, and may even suggest full slicks if it's a dedicated track car.

I think you actually need a 8\" rim to run semi-slicks in 205 if you want a dead straight sidewall. Even on a 7\" the shoulder width is big enough to cause bulging. I think the RE55S in 205/50/15 has a 218mm shoulder bag width. I know my tires on the 15*7's I have are pretty bulgy but the tyres are still very grippy. I want to get the 949 racing 6UL's in 15*8 to see the difference it makes in grip one day.

Thanks guys. I have been running 215/45/17 R compound tyres on my STi with 17 x 7\"rims and haven't encountered any issues with the sidewalls. I can't imagine there'd be too many issues running a 205 R compound tyre on a 7\" rim.
Those 949racing wheels do look the goods. Anyone know if they're available locally?

Not brand new... unless you find someone willing to sell them secondhand which is unlikely you'll need to order them through emilio. I was very tempted but there'll be no black 15*8's until April.

Yeah, looks like 15 x 7" are the way to go, I have a couple of second hand sets to look.

Got the car last Friday, all the details are here:

Hope to have the car ready for a run a couple of months when the cage is all done, but definitely for the V8 round at QR.

Do you guys all get your tyres from a local supplier or is it every man for themselves :)

Paul.

Thanks Andrew.

I have the Velo seat out of my STi that I am going to try and fit into the car but if that doesn't fit I'll probably have to go with a Sparco Sprint like most. If that's the case I might need your Sparco contact :)
