This is a problem that I have noticed over the last couple of years with SP owners.
First of all they were the top of the tree. Hairy bare chested boys finally able to stamp their feet with glee at driving an MX-5 and not getting burnt off at the lights by Toyota Echo’s. We mere mortal NA/NB owners were both envious and as proud as punch for them, at last a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Then along comes the SE and the SP owners poo-who’d the SE relentlessly as being under powered while never admitting that they loathed the SE getting an LSD, sexy 17†wheels and better suspension.
They also gritted their teeth as the SE spent more time on the road rather than in the workshop with airbox, turbo bolts/nut and air cond. problems etc., etc.
“We’re specialâ€, they cried.
“There are only a hundred of us aroundâ€.
“Nothing is better than an SPâ€.
Well boys the world has turn quite a few times in the last 6 years since the SP was released. With time comes a new kid on the block, the NC, which even in its early stages of development will be a class winner on the track.
It’s very interesting that those who regularly race MX-5 are now swapping over to the NC from their turbo SEs and faux SPs. MX5 Racing can see that’s where the future lies, especially when they can lap within 2 - 3 seconds of their old turboed SEs around Wakefield with the standard 91kW ATW engine and almost stock suspension.
Remember the NBs have had 18 years worth of track development. The NC with its superior platform will soon be dominating the MX-5 track scene.
It’s time to come down out of the trees. The SP is going the same way as the MGTC did, into the veteran class.

........................Now I’ll sit back and wait for all the monkey poo to be thrown.
