Procuring Cheap Race Suits

At the last Super Sprint event me and Andrew were approached and told that the cotton full length shirt and Jeans combo was not good enough and we would not be allowed out next outing. I've started looking into suits and it's looking like a brand new single layer is in the vicinity of $220-250 and it just goes up from there. Wondering if anyone has any advice where to pick up a suit cheap. Personally because I'm 68kg's and 6'4\" I'd rather a two piece... the fact the max height I see on all these one piece race suits measurements is 6'2\" worries me. Additioanly with Revolution now gone from wollongong it's harder to find somewhere to try them on. Though I have noticed Steve's speed shop is now listed on the revolution webpage as a distributor....

Ring Brett at Peninsular Sports Cars. He is a revolution agent and will bend over backwards to get you the best price he can. They do everything you will ever need and then some. Best of all he is a MX5 driver (Red 2f MX5 here on the forum) and the boys are working hard to get the MX5 Series working here in NSW.
He is at Brookvale but I know he sends stuff all over Australia. If you get in contact with him he might be able to bring some suits to the next meet for you to try on.
His number is (02) 99072069

Mark, I got mine from the good old US of A.
Go to this site
http://wescoperformance.stores.yahoo.net/They have various types and styles including one & two piece suits.
Mine set me back about AU$140 delivered - Proban Crow.
I ordered it on a Thursday and it was in my local Post Office the following Monday. That’s service.
I’d suggest the two piece and go one size larger if you are on the border of their standard size. My one piece is snug on a cold day if you wear a jumper underneath.

King Gee make a fire retardant overall for the bush fire fighters - surely this would suffice for club super sprints (it only comes in yellow or orange from memory though? This type of ruling is isolated to the organising club's supp regs - CAMS at present don't require anything more than what you are currently wearing. Ask the club what they are going to require in future before you go shopping If you are going to spend more than $100 or so then go the whole hog and buy full a FIA two layer suit - you're headed for circuit racing anyway with your driving skills, so you might as well be prepared

2 piece is not allowed for circuit racing - only drag racing. Buy an FIA spec 2 layer that way it can do every event in Australia in it. Single layer suits are waste of time IMO.
Final point, don't skimp on safety - ever. Buy the best you can afford always. I have had 7 years out of my Revolution Mondial suit so I can highly recommend it. ERG are another local supplier through Speedzone.

All the 2 layers I've seen start at about $600. That leaves me in the position of missing the next Mx5 trackday after this one until I get can new tyres... or getting tyres and missing the next Supersprint trackday due to no suit. Ah the joys of budgeting even at our level

As I said Hellmun - check carefully with the event organiser as to their requirements, CAMS don't mandate anything more than you have been wearing to date, so you may not have a problem. Perhaps it was an over zealous scrutineer who made the comment to you? Maybe the addition of a woolen jumper might help get you through.

A few of the guys I know that work at Qantas (or did) all wear their proban work overalls with no problems. As per below (pretty yellow):
http://www.yakka.com.au/Catalogue.asp?Product=5I'd give CAMS a call and have a chat.
That said, although their exxy a one off purchase of a decent race suit will last you many a year, worth every cent IMHO.

Or you could try a former USAF nomex flight suit from Ebay for about US$50. Not sure where CAMS would sit on this though.
