This should be huge!

It has been decided to hold our own National Championship for MX5's at the new, extended Morgan Park track at Warwick, Queensland on Queens Birthday weekend the 5th and 6th of June 2009.
The weekend will cater for racing and regularity and National Champions will be crowned for 2F, 2B, regularity and invited MX5's at the end of the weekend. There will also be prizes for best dice, best improvement over the weekend and best presented team. Regularity will also have most improved and best presented.
We also plan a full social weekend with dinners on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Sponsors are currently being sought so we can pay prize money, hopefully down to 10th in both racing and regularity.
Press releases will be sent out closer to the event to ensure we get as much coverage as possible in S/E Queensland.

We have already been working with the promoters and have been assured they will hold off inviting other classes until we give them an indication of our numbers. That means we we'll get as many events as possible as the whole weekend will be centred around us.
We don't know entry fees at the moment but they will be no more than a normal race meeting

Break even for Morgan Park is about 90 entries, Porsche have indicated that they are also interested in running their own races.

The long weekend is a national public holiday so you can use the Monday to get home if you need to.

We are going to need an indication of numbers and of course it has to be pretty firm.

I have already started a list so please get back to me and let's know if you would like to be part of the biggest MX5 event in Queensland.

We have already floated the idea with the MX5 club of Queensland who plan to make it part of their competition series and we will be contacting their NSW counterparts.

We are also more than interested to hear from anybody who would like to add anything to the event which could attract more competitors or raise public awareness.

So who's keen both Regularity or Racing?

Neil

Great idea! I'm keen, but what class can a bog std NA6 (except tyres) be somewhat competitive in?

Also unclear on your dates for 2009 - 5/6th is the Friday / Saturday? You mean 6-8th, yes?

Peter

PS. June in Warwick could be very very wintery - take the extra layers!

This weekend will be a fantastic event for everyone. I know of at least 12 - 15 racers from NSW that are planning to attend and I'm sure a similar number of regularity people will join us. 8)

Simone is has organised an accommodation group booking at the Jackie Howe motel in town. If you are from NSW and want to join us there send her an email at simone@mx5mania.com.au The Jackie Howe will become Chateau Miata for this weekend and plenty of fun will be had. PLEASE GET IN QUICK AS NUMBERS ARE LIMITED.

Great work to all those QLD'ers involved in getting this off the ground and lets hope it's the 1st of many events in the future!!!

On another note, Cal will 2F cars require a passenger seat  8)

Gday all.

This will be an awsome event for the MX5 racing community.

If it is anything like the Improved Production nationals i did at Oran park a couple of weeks ago it will be great.

I have only done the one IP race meeting so far and i already miss the clean racing of the MX5 guys. I think i counted i made contact with other cars 9 times over the weekend and got a fair bit of panel damage. Those boys race for keeps. I suppose it was there National meeting though. Even punch ups in the pits on the Saturday. The new car was good though. I only really drove it for the first time that weekend and qualified 6th out of 83 cars with a 1.18.3. I think the car is capable of a low 1.17 once i get used to it. Saturday was good but Sunday was woeful. I made mistakes and had a DNF which put me down in the middle of the pack where all the action is. Car is not as nice to drive as a MX5 though. Pretty physical. Was down a bit of horsepower at the Nationals but will freshen the motor and get it back for next year. These rotories need a fair bit of upkeep to keep the in good shape.

Has anybody seen my old car yet up at QLD ? I know he is going to bring it out to race with you guys.

I might have to lease a drive off somebody for this one.

Have a good christmas

Cheers
Brett

Hi Brett

Cal and I both followed your progress via natsoft at the nationals and were well impressed but wasn't sure if you still looked at this site. A bloody good effort for the amount of seat time you had in the car. Well done!

You car hasn't seen any racing but I was told on Sunday that he has been going to the sprints to get a custom to the car. By all accounts he will be running with us next year.

Just food for thought but Tony may have a car that you could rent if he hasn't sold it them by then so you could some up and run on the all new extended Morgan Park and have another run with us QLD's?

I should have my turbo car sorted by then so I'm looking forward to the chance to run against some of the fastest MX5's in the country.

That is as long as Cal doesn't do 3 laps in my car brake the gearbox again

I am keen to do this meeting.

Have they extended Morgan Park ? I raced there last year. Great track.

Cheers
Brett

They are extending it now and by all accounts adding about another 1000 meters with a longer front straight so should be en even better track than it is now.
