And what a hoot it is!!!(Thought 'd post a wrap up of it today!)
tight, twisty, off camber turns, on camber turns - its jsut awesome!

I went with the team at www.mx5cartalk.com and just had a blast!

If anyone hasnt tried this track, it really is great for mx5's!
I managed a 46.9 and my mrs did a 50.1!

There were quite a range of cars, skylines, supras, evo's etc but they just couldnt keep up with the mx5 through the corners! the straight...yeah...need a bit more power as I didnt even reach 100km, I think I got to 95 or so? :D
My car did 10 sessions, 6 with me, 4 with the mrs - and never ever missed a beat!

I think out of the 30 odd cars, the quickest were 2 s13 silvias who were in the 43's and an sti in the 44's - 45's
(this was hand timing too btw as they dont have official timing)

Some of these big powered supra's were doing 48 - 49's as they just couldnt get it through the twisty tight stuff, but the straight, and their ext gate's were pretty cool I must say!

so anyway, great track, if anyone gets a chance to go out there in their mx5, you'll have a blast!! So do it! :d I still cannot stop smiling!!

(If I see any photos from other sites, I'll post em in here :) )

Cheers!
chris

See Chris, you should have got a S13 Nugget instead of a NA8 Nugget :P

Great to hear you had fun out there! I have only heard one person have bad things to say about MDTC so far so I plan to get the LOLBoat down there to try it out myself in the near future :D

Gotta agree that the Marulan track is a lot of fun. It's very tight and twisty, and 10 minute sessions are plenty, especially if you don't have power steering!

This gives you an idea of the clockwise circuit layout and the speeds I was clocking in my stock NA6 MX-5 on 15th March, for the track day organised by MX-5 Mania.

The track rises and falls a maximum of ~13m across the circuit. That might not seem like much, but you really notice it on the track. Total track length is ~930m so my average lap speed was 68km/hr. The lap record is currently 42.1s for an average speed of 80km/hr.

Some videos ...

My best lap (49.3s)

My best stuff-ups

I was mucking around with my Performance Box data and the video I shot. Split the track up into 6 segments and found the quickest split times I managed for each one. Then I matched them up with the video and spliced together a theoretical lap to show my optimal lines through the corners. As a result, my best time of 49.3s was shaved down to a theoretical best of 48.4s! The key message for this track ... if you sacrifice speed through the corners and take a very tight line, you'll actually be quicker overall! Less tyre squeal too!

My best theoretical lap (48.4s)

My brakes and tires suffered much more punishment at Marulan than at Wakefield. It's a fantastic track, keeps you so busy.

It's good to hear more and more people enjoying all of Garry's hard work, places like this need more support and more exposure.

I suffered more than the car!

I was so sore after it, arms, back etc etc but yeah, bloody worth it!
