make sure you have heaps of primer on it too. & make sure you do at least 2 full guide coats
what I mean is 3coats of primer.
1 guide coat
another 2 or 3 coats of primer
another guide coat
then let loose with the real paint

Cheers mate, i didnt have a clue on how much i would need

From what i've read you can't get a better base than factory paint... so basically i dont need primer unless i have bare metal exposed in which case ill need to etch, sand then add primer. A must when sending over factory paint is make sure its all scuffed up so the new paint grabs.
So basically what i think im going to do is sand off the clear coat (which is currently whats causing all the problems (burning and flaking). lightly sand the paint underneath then start spraying over.
With any luck she'll have a fresh new coat in a couple months
