MORE MegaSquirt PNP help

Postby white1.8 » Sun Aug 03, 2008 3:29 pm

Hi sorry to be so whiny,
I got the Megasquirt running yesterday, so i decided to install the wideband O2 sensor to help me get the AFR better and so i could get it tuned more easily when i get to the dyno.
Now the car barely idles and the AFR is sitting at about 8:1 when its idleing, i dont know what ive done wrong, as far as i know, i did exactly what it said in the instructions to install the wide band, (it's the innovative LC-1),
My car is a (november 93 made) 94 model, with the only modifications being, a pod filter and an exhaust.
Ive checked the timing again and it stil reads 10 when ive got the timing locked.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Cheers,
matt

Did you play around with the base fuel map, or change anything at all in MegaTune? (besides what you should change as per instructions)

Did you follow the installation instructions to the letter for the LC-1? ie, did you do the free-air calibration?

I can't imagine how it can go wrong if you didn't change any settings or parameters.

I would start over from scratch, take it one step at a time, and check that everything is plugged in correctly and tight.

If you have no joy, you can contact me on 0401 615 700. I live at Sunnybank Hills and work at West End.

The biggest tip I can give you is DO NOT make any unnecessary changes until you know EXACTLY what you are doing and the consequences of your actions.

yeah i had changed some other settings and i already changed back to the tune that come with the megasquirt and just did the things i was supposed to.
Im going to try a new power sorce for the sensor and do the calabrating and free air calabrating again.
I have aftermarket headers which sit very close everything else, and i think i cracked them putting the sensor in the first time, there is smoke comming out from the middle of the joint where two of the collecters join,
i am currently running the 02 sensor in narrowband as it seams to stay a bit leaner (about 14.7) when idleing and flicks over to 6 then back to 14.7. randomly.

cheers

Yesterday i pulled u pall the carpet etc to get to the ecu, resoldered the joint petween the o2 sensor wire and the plug for the ecu, started the car with out putting the carpet back or the foot plate and the car ran perfectly hitting the target air fuel ratios, so i tucked the wires up, bolted the plate back down put the carpet back and stared the car again, this time the ARF was back to 8:1 any ideas?

How weird. The obvious diagnosis is that something came loose or there's a short circuit somewhere.

Have you emailed Matt or Justin from DIY?
Did you check the forums whose links I posted in your other thread?

I was speaking to a mate the other day who has done a lot of research into o2 sensors. He recommended I look up the Bosch spec sheet for the sensor as he said the sensor has a certain orientation it needs to be installed in so it doesn't die and also that the cable sheath is actually a breather for the workings. I never did look up the specs but maybe you are messign with the sensor the way you have run your wires. :?

I have a MS PNP and the Innovate o2 to go in soon so I hope you work it out and can tell me what not to do.

Ill be kind of embarrassed if this turns out to be the whole problem,
I actually logged before and after i put the floor back, it turns out that the map pressure when it ran properly was idling at about 27 kPa
After I installed the floor it was almost a constant 100 kPa, I think I crushed the map line when I put the flor back on.
Ill check that tonight and update, thank you all for the ideas.

 I rerouted the map line, and made sure it wasnt under the floor when i put it back, and now the car idles and runs perfectly, it sits very close to the target air fuel ratios in the table.
Thank you all so much for your help.
