New Oil Filter available from Repco 16 Micron filter

Postby aka_juffa » Tue Oct 20, 2020 11:49 am

Hey all,

Was looking to buy a filter for Snow White online, probably a ryco one.

I noticed that Ryco have introduced a new filter Z436ST (standard one is Z436).

The new filter is able to filter particles down to 16 micron, verses 32 micron for the standard filter.

Sparesbox have the ST for $14.36 (plus delivery)

Supercheap have the ST for $22.51 (no delivery cost if you click and collect)

While the use of synthetic oil does not require a special oil filter, the 16 micron filter might be worth it, as per the linked blog.

I've got one fitted to my SE right now.

It does seem to bump up the running oil pressure slightly from ~57psi to ~62psi but otherwise fine.....

I think Ryco introduced one about 2 years ago, then discounted and discontinued it. It was dearer and had a shorter service life. I guess this is the new version.

Does anyone happen to know what the micron rating is for the Mazda OEM filters we get in Aust?

I have searched on the big forum and saw references to 20 micron, but I believe that Mazda USA sources their own filters rather than using the same ones as Mazda Aust.

It was on the shelf at Supercheap last time I was there buying an oil filter for the SE, thought I'd give it a go.

On a side note, do people find that oil filters are a bit expensive nowadays? Or is it oil is always discounted making filters seem expensive?

Yes to both? I am often surprised at both the price of oil and filters.

Just realised that the thread title was meant to say Ryco, not Repco.

Silly Juffa.

Picked up 2 of the filters and some oil from Super Cheap as the oil was on sale.....so Bruce's post was poignant.
