Does anyone know what the Mazda Motorsport recomended spark plug heat range for the SP is? What is everyone else using?

Cheers

Pretty sure I'm running NGK BRK7ES-11 plugs - you should give Daniel a ring to check though. Didn't go for iridium jobbies as I change em regularly anyway, so 'long life plugs' don't interest me :D

Thanks BD, I'm running 6's atm and I think they may be a bit hot. I'm trying to find out what the specs are but it seems like it's one of the closest secrets at Mazda for some reason.

I have changed mine but i cant remember the number its either 7, as suggested or 6. I found out at the time they went in. I think it was CT that told me.

I put some 7's in tonight and I'll see how they go. It had 5's in it at one stage. Around the same time it was playing up last January. I'm not sure if they were installed at the last service before I went on holidays or if the Mazda place in Albury gave me the wrong ones. It's a worry when Mazda dont even know the correct parts for your car.

I argued with Newells over the plugs, they said it took the same ones as any other mx5 as the engine was the same. It was only resolved when they took one of them out and looked at the numbers ! Dont trust the dealer...

Most shops will sell you normal MX5 ones as that's all thier book tells them.

I've been running 8s in mine for a while in the NGK V power range - goes like a dream - only thing we had to do was gap it down to .9mm when we ran high (15+psi) boost.

7s would be the minimum to use I reckon. If you've upped the boost, definitely try 8s and check the plug electrode colouring after a thousand clicks or so. 5s    Mazda can be so funny....the race car uses 6s and it's NA! 8)

Thanks CT. I've got 7's in it now and so far so good. I'll pull the plugs after a few km and see how they look.
