Price of a new diff?

Hi guys,

My original NA6 diff is about to shag itself me thinks, so preparing for the inevitable replacement. Have a question about costs though.

Ideally want an LSD, but what should this cost me roughly?

1) Is it better off finding a complete 1.6 Mazdaspeed LSD to do a straight bolt in; or,

2) finding a 1.8 housing then finding a torsen center to put in it.

Which is going to be the cheaper option? But also which will be the better option?

What is the going price for a second hand open 1.6 diff? Curious to know the price difference between an LSD and open center diff.

Many thanks in advance,

Nathan

In my opinion teh 1.8 swap is the way to go.

MX5 Drift Fury on the forums can often source complete 1.8 LSD setups for a reasonable price, Mania have also sold a few lately.

Not sure what teh going rate is but the bonus is you will unlikely break a 1.8 diff 8)

Thanks Sean,

Have heard about MX5 drift fury.... could be the way to go.

Was given a rough price yesterday of $1800, but that seems a little pricey????? I thought you could pick one up for $1200? Or am I just being optimistic?

Cheers,

Nathan

Probably pretty optimistic or very lucky

You'd prolly pay $ 1000 for a very good second hand centre alone.

Mania have a Torsen special for $650 there i think . Youd still need to source the Crown wheel, Drive shaft, ,2 half shafts & the casing plus the seals . If you did it that way, you could also get the 4.3 rato.
You'd also have to be very lucky to get the 4.3 ratio with the 1.8 Torsen kit.

$1500- 2000.......but you will not regret it.

for a 1.6 Mazspeed.....$600 - 1200 is a guess. I believe ther are a little more agressive. But Bewwwwwtyyful. I drove slammers once.

If MX-5 Mania don't have any to sell, I know Leslie@Wheelspin.com.au has been advertising a 1.8 LSD conversion on our club forum.

My 4.3 torsen came from http://www.adelaidejap.com.au/ $1200 complete with housing (no need for half shafts etc because it was going into a 94). I think they had the complete conversion for a 89-93 for ~$1500.
