after qr track day with mostly right turns my car was making a noise, kinda like driving on audible lines but not quite so loud.

Havnt been able to isolate it yet but if anyone has any ideas?

It is there when driving straight and is more prevalent when you turn right even a touch, but turn left a little and it goes away.

tried changing the tyres incase it was them, but no luck.

Ran the car with the back wheels up on stands and i think it was still there a little, its hard to hear it though over the engine and if you get it up to speed and clutch in the car slows pretty much instanly(doesn't have 960kg odd of inerta to keep it goin)

Thanks, Tim

If the rumble goes away when you're turning in one direction that sounds like wheel bearings to me.

Jack up a corner, grab the wheel at 12 o clock and 6 o clock and wiggle it a bit to see if there is any play. Should be none. If it's really bad, then rotating the wheel slowly by hand will bee \"grainy\".

QR has a tendency of killing the front left wheel bearing :)

yea qr was pretty hard on the front left but i checked that one first and it seems to run smooth and no play.

I just checked the rears they both have very very slight play but still run smooth. when rotating them fast i got a bit of a noise which seems to be from the diff. But i cant be sure if it the same noise. Would you think it possible to be the diff? Im gunna try draining the oil and see if there is any metal in it  .

Also while inspecting the left rear wheel bearing I have noticed oil covering the lower wishbone, and a trail down the shock, looks like i might need those new shocks sooner than I was hoping :D turns out race tracks can be not so kind on lil 16 year old cars :D

Nice just put a new water pump on and waiting for a timing belt kit to come. I havnt even been paid yet but it looks like the next one is all spent :D

Ok there is a little minor debris, and the oil did look a bit like a very ultra fine metellic paint, but no teeth or anything of substance to make me suspect it. Anyhow if the diff was going I would expect more of a whine than the noise my car is making.

Ok, I have found something a little abnormal, still do not know if it is the cause. If I reach underneath, grab the driveshaft and shake it the right has a litle play and the left has quite a bit. When I shake the driveshaft i can actually see the flange of the diff shaking with it. Does this sound abnormal? Im sure it cant be good

My dad suggested the gearbox, might try drainig that oil to see what its like?

A job for after work tomorrow

Not normal. Diff and/or driveshaft might be shafted.

Is it play in the Uni joint on the tailshaft?
Mine has completely gone and was causing unusual noises..

realised earlier it cant be gearbox or tailshaft uni cos this wouldnt account for it going away when turning left. Although i did check the uni just in case.

I will keep investigating after i get it goin again, just got it pulled apart waiting for a timing belt kit

Went back and rechecked the front wheel bearings today, it has been lingering in my mind that it has to be it. feels fine rolls smooth, absolutely no play. I took the brake caliper and disc off both sides to hear the bearing over the brakes. After refitting the wheel on both sides with no brakes it is quite evident the left hand is noisy. So it is now back together so I can drive it till I get the new bearing/hub. It is amazing how the bearing has no other signs of problem yet creates that noise.
