has anyone made this addition to their 5? I was thinking of doing it when i put my new belt on. I have seen a few bits for na6's but does anyone know of one for a nb8a?

I have not done it to a MX5

I did do it to a Morris Minor, after breaking a crankshaft. I put a Morris Cooper S ballancer on it. It was supposed to prevent the cranckshaft from breaking. It was mutch heavier.
It reved a lot smoother........but the cranckshaft eventually broke a 2nd time.

I then replaced a 948ccm motor with a 1100 sprite motor( i don't think there is such a thing its just an 1100 motor with all the sprite go fast bits.)It had a standard pulley on it.
The crankshaft never brocke again.

I'd personally stay away from it.

i see your point, the crank is ballanced for that weight of pulley etc. thanks for the advice!

Dont touch them unless they are balanced and made by a reputable company. Otherwise a pulley for the water pump would be fine. :D

Why would you even bother?

The only reason I see to do it is to underdrive the water pump, alternator etc. It's the only way to actually make more grunt.

Thats what i was thinkin, also prevents water cavitation at sustained high rpm
