Gday,

Does anyone have a 5 speed tranny sump plug they wouldn't mind parting with? Maybe someone with a dead or old GB laying around that they don't use....
I am going to be able to get mind off..I THINK... but it's going to be destroyed.

It's kinda urgent.... this weekend... so I guess you need to be in brissy. Either that or I wait until Tuesday.

Anyone Anyone??? PLEASE!

Thanks guys and girls...

Just out of curiosity, what is wrong with the old one?

If the hex has been destroyed, you can often get away with reusing them, just weld a big nut on the end, will give it enough grip to tighten it and remove it when you find another one.

Well... I haven't got it out yet :(

aside from that... welding at short notice is easier said then done....
:D

thanks though john... i might do that... if it's not easier to buy a new one.

well as far as getting stripped bolts out goes, vice grips and swearing really loudly at the offending item have always seemed to work really well for me.

got a picture of the problem?

Oh man, only a banana bender would associate plug for the rear as a butt plug.

IIRC, vice grips might not work as the the plug has a very low profile for the vice grips to bite on, and it's made of soft metal too. You will round the plug further. It happened to my diff filler plug(before I removed the drain plug). I then got a mechanic to remove the badly chewed plug with a 6-point socket. I wouldn't advise chiseling the plug as you will not be left with any useful bit to fit a socket later. Get a 6-point socket and see you can whack it on if isn't too badly chewed up.

I'm slowly building up a collection of 6-point sockets for all those all to crack nuts. You can find them at the air tools section of an auto parts store.

yeah, vice grips would definitely be a last resort, if the plug is too chewed up. otherwise the 6 point socket and the rattle gun (or long breaker bar) are the best option, that and lots of crc to help loosen it all up.

Those gearbox filler plugs are such a retarded design...
