You could run a VERY nice, brand new setup for less, and it would be intercooled and have an engine management system that you can actually find someone to tune.

Boags is right... If you look at what is included in that kit;

T25 turbo
Exhaust manifold
Intake and filter
Piggyback computer
All for over $3300.

You could get (as an example);

GT-RS turbo or similar (much better and bigger turbo - T25 is too small IMO) - $1500
Custom exhaust manifold - $500
Intake and filter - $150
Microtech LT-10s (a full replacement computer, not just a piggyback) - $1100
Total - $3250

And that is a MUCH better setup for less. You could save about $1000 without sacrificing much power and drivability by getting a second hand T28 or similar.

For both systems you would also need an intercooler and piping (about $800), and a custom dump pipe ($200). A new radiator might be necessary as well (about $750 for a PWR 38mm). Plus someone to tune it for a few hours (about $400).

In short - I wouldn't buy it.

I'll probably open a can of worms by adding to this thread, and granted I don't know massive amounts about turbo's but still, have done a lot of research over the past 18 months, and learnt a lot as well. Here goes..

Granted the kit is not complete and yes, the T25 is a small turbo when compared to what a T28 can give you.

But being that I researched right into this kit myself, I think it depends on what you want and where you want the bulk of the power and torque to be. I realise that the T28 can give higher torque and power figures and that it doesn't run out of puff past around 6000rpm like the T25 does.

I think that it really depends on your driving style and what you want out of it all at the end of the day. I've seen the HKS dyno chart and boost comes on real early starting at around 1800rpm and peaking at around 4600rpmand then starts running out of puff at around 5500rpm. But the torque and power curves are very low rpm oriented - which is great for around town blasting through traffic. But also keeping in mind that the dyno chart was based on using a FCon mini and not a full replacement ECU such as Wolf or Autronic etc. I don't know, and someone correct me if I am wrong here, but perhaps with a proper ECU, the top end could maybe be extended a bit.

From what I have learnt though is that then HKS seems to be much more a DIY kit than any other and it also negates the need for drilling into the sump for a oil return line by utilising a modified metal pipe that connects into the dip stick area. It seems to be a real DIY kit, with everthing except Intercooler, intercooler pipes etc and BOV. So for someone on a budget who can't afford to have someone do the installation for them, then perhaps its not a bad deal.

But as I said, it depends what you want and how you drive as well and of course, your budget.

Agreed that you can do a \"bitsa\" system cheaper as indicated in previous posts, but I think there too, and dending on your budget, decent high quality oil and water lines and connections need to be added to the prices and from what I have seen, these aren't cheap. THe HKS kit provides all of this.

This was a very sensible post Zen, and I urge people to listen, because a "bitsa" kit is cheaper, but MUCH MUCH harder to put together.

However, when I said you could do it cheaper and intercooled, that included oil and water lines.

I have to say that if a kit came on the market at about $2K (not intercooled), it would be worth getting. At $2.5K, the Greddy is the closest, although it has several major downsides.

The HKS kit is very basic but very well engineered as most HKS stuff is. I use to have a kit on a NB and it produced about 50% extra power off the bat and was very reliable and ran quite factory like for an aftermarket kit.

The kit is designed to run about 5-6psi using the stock injectors.
