nice and red where are you guys picking up these rocker covers? how much are they roughly, i cant find sh*t (but i havent looked hard enough )

EASY! Just poor some water into a vacuum hose (make sure it's a fair amount). This will cause one of your cylenders to hydraulic lock, and bend a rod. This will mean you need to buy a new engine which, of course, comes with a rocker cover.

This is how Uncle Arthur did it anyway...

I did my cam cover (MX-5 heads don't have rockers :p) in a wrinkle red, but I found that the red was too dark - didn't match the body of the car, unfortunately. sab's got the best match I've seen yet - somehow he managed to get it to keep its brightness!

I've got a can of wrinkle black here which I've been meaning to use, though...

No lie, I was just looking at this can of paint in autobarn today thinking that I should get it as I am a bit over the whole sanding and polishing thing at the moment. Do you have any pics with it fitted back on the engine?

No - not yet - it still needs about three or four coats of heat proof clear to protect the finish. And then I have to decide if I install it or not..... I've got an adjustable cam gear to potentially go on, so that determines if or not I fit the new (red) cam cover in place of the polished one.

I won't give away the 'secret' to how I did this one, but there will be about 8 or 9 individual coats of paint to make it a strong finish.... and it isn't a metallic finish

lol... painting looks so much easier... ive given up on polishing the rest of the inlet manifold and my spare rocker cover.. im half way there just no time.. will have to get stuck into it again soon

Painting is easier, but it will still take me the equivalent amount of time as polishing, but with less physical effort.....

And I'll have to be a bit more careful with it as the painted finish may not be as resilliant as the polished finish in the long run, or as easy to clean.....

mmm, noob question, but if you take of the cover to paint/polish, are there any gaskets that would be reccomended on replacing once take off?

Just the one
