Hey guys,
yesterday i was in the middle of taking my engine out to put the new one in when dad tried to turn the spare motor over by hand. Long story short car went back together and today we found the pistons covered in crap, dirt, rust etc.

We've cleaned it all up and it looks good, so we wont be re-building it but i do need a new head gasket.
First question: should i bother going thicker to drop the compression? (car is boosted, and will be running around 12psi on the new motor)
Second: Where can i get a good quality gasket from?

Thanks for the help.
Dave

PS a search came up with nothing useful.

40 thou is normal.
0.00040 thou is a bit undersize... ;)

I wouldn't use a thick head gasket to drop compression as you will ruin your squish areas. (And you shouldn't need to lower compression for 12psi anyway.)

An OEM gasket from Mazda is more than sufficient and will sh!t on any ACL jobbie (or similar). Cometics are extremely good but an overkill for what you need.

I looked up cometic but the rocket website didnt show our cars as available.
I'll get prices for the mazda one and the cometic and see which is cheaper.

Thanks for the advice guys!!

Buying an OEM one from Mazda is about $140 off memory.

Nah mate, Mazda know how to charge :P I bought a full J-Spec B6T OEM gasket kit for my rebuild and it was about $600 all up.
