Hello everyone,
I bought a muffler and im wondering on how to fit it on my NA MX

heres the details on what i bought:

How does it work?

Varex muffler combines both the design technology of the stock muffler and the performance muffler into one single compact unit. A sophisticated butterfly valve mechanism is implemented to redirect the exhaust gas flow and vary between the two. For higher sound level, the exhaust flows are directed through the opening path and produces maximum power with a robust sound level (or the “sports car note”) and near-zero resistance. Whilst for lower sound level, the exhaust flows are directed through the chambered path (similar design with the stock muffler), and produces minimum sound level that gives you the best in-car comfort. Also, you are able to control the angle of the valve which can be adjusted to stop at any point between the sports mode and the silence mode. This gives you further freedom to set the optimal sound level according to your preference.

Sorry about a lot of writing
Here are my questions

Has anyone got a cannon style muffler on their mx5?
Will the muffler work, as in fit?
Do I have to get the muffler place to place it on an angle?
Would I have to cut a bit of the rear bumper to make it fit?

AJ the most common use for these type mufflers are drag racing...

Old days turn up to race and drop your rear pipes

Currently you turn up and either manually or auto turn a lever and have a straight thru system...works really well on V8's 8)

Next few years all you will need is an electric car and a voltmeter....

Isn't that something... Interesting and clever idea. Was it expensive?

i dont have a varex muffler on my car.

i still have the stock system!

we did test one on a forester XT.

it will fit, same place as OEM muffler, i dont think youd have to cut anything.
should be easy.

thanks heaps kula,

would it fit in the original muffler position parallel to the bumper? how would you get it to right angle bend and come out the back?

how did it shape up on the forester? what it quiet when closed? ...etc?

Thanks for that MasterZ.

Its a good idea, I'll be interested to see how it installs and to hear what it sounds like when its in. I guess i'ld just be worried that it would sound like a mutant sheep when its completely open....

If it sounds good and gives good performance (ie: not worse than stock) I'ld be interested in one..

The install would be a bit tricky due to the stock muffler being a completely different shape wouldn't it? But i'm sure an exaust shop would be able to mount it fairlly easily, there seems to be space.

Ben,

youll need a angle bend made up for the exit... but any shop can do that.

close up it was perfectly drivable, and quieter than stock!!!
open, it was almost as loud as a straight through 3 inch canon muffler, but a tiny bit less.
