Does anyone know where to go to get a new Cam Cover Gasket?
I'm hoping to replace it this Sunday

I started noticing when I accelerate that it wasn't smooth so first thing i checked was the spark plugs

and the spark plugs happen to have oil over it (was recently replaced 2000k ago)

so my guess is the gasket needs replacing

Question could it be the bolts aren't tight

cause there was a leak on the side near the exhaust ... and dad tightened up the bolts around there and it has stopped leaking


Its only the spark plug up the front no1 i think it is that has oil the others are dry

should i just replace it now that its leaking or is it safe to try tightening up the bolts a bit

i'd make sure to get the Camshaft Angle Sensor seal too while at it. No better time to replace that one then together with the rocker cover gasket.

Spend the extra and get the genuine one, the aftermarket ones do tend to not hold up as well from all reports.

Just remember to look at the articles on miata.net http://www.miata.net/garage/valvecover/index.html on adding gasket goo to the corners, and to tighten the bolts in the correct sequence and to the correct torque.

i think i found the problem

the bolts aren't tight

i just tighten them up a bit so hopefully it shouldn't leak no more

When it comes to changing seals and gaskets on a car that seems to never have had it done, then you may as well change the whole lot in one go instead of just doing one.
Do some reasearch and find all the part numbers you need for rocker-cover, cam-angle sensor etc., so you will be ready.

And I would go for genuine Mazda OEM parts cause it's not that much more expensive than aftermarket, will fit perfectly, and will last you for 100,000kms+.

as far as i know to change the cam cover one its just a matter of removing the bolts on the cover and remove the old gasket put the new one in a bit of silicon here and there and then the cover can go on

also while i'm in there anything else i should change as well

oh i don't have a CAS so just the cam cover will do i guess

now i just need to wait for that plastic to arrive which is taking a lot of time
