This is all just personal opinion. I think I am running the same clutch as you with 135-138kw supercharged (EXEDY Sports tuff HD). The clutch is coping fine - wouldn't have as much mid range torque as yours will have though it does last all the way to redline. I am planning on increasing the boost 3psi in the first half of this year and with that being at or above 150rwkw and quite a bit more torque off idle. I'm not planning on changing the clutch.

Realistically it will cost you nothing to try the existing one first will it? I'm sure they will still charge you $700-800 to change it now, or after your kit is fitted so what have you got to loose? Unless you are planning on dropping it from every set of lights or its already got a lot of wear I can't see you having too many issues.

If youre planning on going to 180rwkw at some stage I spose you may need to consider it then. Personally I will be spending my first track day with the above clutch later this month.

All the other options you are talking about are going to make it a bit of a PITA to live with at times from what I have read on here. Perhaps in the end you may need to go that way but I would try out what you have first.

Those who have one feel free to correct me :). But I am sure their are quite a number of SP's and SE's out there running 150rwkw with the standard clutch let alone something slightly heavier like the EXEDY HD (or perhaps the standard clutch is equivalent - not sure)

Hope this helps

Steve

My SP is running a bit over 150RWKW and after more than 50,000 k's, I've still got the original clutch in it, and it seems to be holding up quite OK.

I also do some trackwork, but I have found that with racing rubber on, if I rev it to say 3,500RPM and drop the clutch, I will get a bit of clutch slip, but not a huge amount.
On street tyres, there is no problem at all with slippage.

Take tk421's advice and save yourself some money and use your current clutch.
It should be fine.

My race car uses the Exedy MZK-6964 Heavy Duty Button clutch. It's a easy clutch to use and holds 180rwkw+ no problems. I reckon it's the best way to go street or strip.

mate, what you will need is not a full on puck clutch, or a HD exedy clutch as puck is too harsh for street everyday and more recomended for race cars like CT's, and your right, exedy rate that clutch only to take roughly around 150kw atw.

i have done a few now with that power, try looking at one from exedy, its called a 9 puck cushion button.
it still uses a puck design but utilizes the full disc set up still for a fairly good feel on the street, rated at somewhere up to 300kw with use in high torque apps.

any ways, thats what i think.

same question but for na6.

my standard clutch is starting to slip. i know a lot of people upgrade to a 1.8 clutch , i already bought a 1.8 flywheel but yeah, i'd like to stick with the 1.6 if i can. is there anything out there that is up to the task of say about 170rwkw? (not that i'm at that level of power yet)
