Advancing ignition timing

Hey all,
I've read that you could advance your timing by 4 degs for a healthy free increase in power (given you run a higher RON fuel) for the NA6, but is this possible for the NB8B? If so, how do i do it? I had a search around the net and this forum and i can't find anything about it.
cheers
steve

It's not something you can do quickly and easily like on NAs. You can grind the crank angle sensor to achieve this but since the tuning is better to start with the gains aren't really worth it.

You can adjust the stop on the back of the intake cam.

Friendly word of warning; even though this is a popular thing to do, I know of at least one instance where the person did it, found next to no increase in power, and detonation was actually loud enough to hear. Even when running premium.
His car, by the way, is unmodified and in great condition ('95+ NA8), and he is very knowledgeable, as he has performed numerous engine transplants, amongst other things.

If your timing hasn't been adjust before you will probably find that the CAS O ring will now leak. I suggest you check it out as the leaking oil will eventually damage one of the heater hoses that runs behind the head.
