Play nice and help the guy out?
I believe its a Hybrid Garret based on GT25/28 design, some one correct me if I am wrong?
Cost of rebuilding is dependent on what they find, eg compressor wheel, turbine clip and whether machining and balancing is required. Yet to see a turbo rebuild less then $1k. You should be able to source a new GT25 not far from that rebuild price.

You're right, it's a Garret T28 Shell with a T25 internals.
I've already had the turbo on my SP replaced once under warranty.

PM RussellB or Pilsner or give them a call at Carco Automotive - 02 6253 1396 or
Carco Automotive. They have built a couple of very quick SP replica track dogs that have the SP spec turbo fitted. They have the correct Garrett part numbers.
Craig - this ones for you *phfffffttt*

Caedrus wrote:The vibration starts at about 2300 RPM, and stops vibrating at about 3200 RPM. I am assuming that there has been some damage to the turbo. There is a definite lack of blow off valve pressure, and the car is just feeling a little gutless (if you can say that about an SP).
You could certainly easily check for any shaft play yourself. Remove the intake piping so that you can see the compressor wheel, grab a hold of the centre bolt holding the wheel on, and see if you can move it up and down or in and out. Also, check that is spins freely without binding at all. If it is out of whack by a long way, you will hear loud metal on metal scraping noises - very not good.
As for costs of a rebuild, it will depend how much work is required. I would strongly recommend
MTQ for a rebuild. They will quote for the work too, but of course need to pull the whole thing apart to be able to do that accurately. I had a T25G rebuilt by them a couple of years ago and from memory it cost around $700. They did a very good job, and give a 12month warranty on their work.
Even give MTQ a call and run the scenario by them. They were very helpful to me over the phone before I went and spent any money there.

I was told not to put it in with my NA 94. I have a GT2560R
Flyin miata in the USA said they dont use them because the MX doesnt produce much oil pressure.
Should I remove the restrictor from the feed line?????
no oil restrictor is needed on the MX5 as the Engine has one between the block and the head. the turbo for the SP is a GT2560R . replacement cost NEW is around the $1300mark with 12 moths Warranty.
