There seems to be some confusion as to the firing order of the 1.8. Is it the same or different to the 1.6

Some sources say 1-3-4-2 however from my experience most 4 cylinder motors are 1-4-3-2

This is of course determined by the cams the motor has in it.

as the coils are wasted spark (two cylinders fire at once), for the 1.8, that would read 1 (or 4) - 3 (or 2) - 4 (or 1) - 2 (or 3), so 1-3-4-2

And thats assuming that the coils fire sequencially.

Mazda have a reputation for group firing, being coil 1 twice then coil two twice. That would make the firing order 1-4-3-2.

The big sites link is great for matching plugs to coils on a standard system but doesn't actually show the firing order, see what i'm getting at?

I'm leaning towards 1-3-4-2 and to be sure might read the cams (for that 100% feeling )

Why do you need firing order?

Plug lead layout connection for 1.8 below. Doesn't matter if 1/4 and 2/3 are arranged differently as long as 1/4 are on the right coil pack and 2/3 are on the left coil pack.

Sequencial injector firing JBT

The aftermarket controller fires the injectors according to cylinder timing order.

output 1 fires no 1 cylinder
output 2 fires no 3 cylinder
output 3 fires no 4 cylinder
output 4 fires no 2 cylinder

Thats assuming a firing order of 1-3-4-2

Aaah, OK. Yes 1-3-4-2 for the 1.6. I'm not sure of the 1.8 though.

By the looks of the 2nd link the timing order is unchanged (both 1-3-4-2) for the 1.6 and 1.8.
