Noob question.
Can you change the base circle of you cams when you are using HLAs?
Looking at some cams where the base circle is 2.4mm smaller in diameter that OEM cams.

I was waiting for someone else to answer cause I'm no expert.
But simple answer is yes, AFAIK.
The reason why the base circle is smaller on the aftermarket cam is so they can make the "lobe" part (or whatever you call it) as big as possible, ie. giving you more lift sooner.
The HLA's will handle and compensate for the smaller diameter well, it's the later model solid lifters that cannot as they need a shim or "lift kit" to accomodate a smaller base circle.
Hope that helps

yeah i'm aware of what they do, cherrs. but just need to know how much they will compensate before the base circle is "too small."
maruha do a F cam that has a base circle of 33.6mm and 34.2mm. the original being 36mm. that is straight bolt in, (i think). just wanna know if it is really just bolt in and whether you can go more? or have maruha maxxed them out?

Is that really a bolt in, or does it only work with their special lifters?
Is it only a bolt in in the sense that you don't have to grind metal out of the head to clear the cam lobes?
