Hi all,

My mechanic just installed a new clutch into my 2007 NC 6speed. Ever since there has been a severe engine oil leak and the car has been with him with almost 2 weeks.

so far he has replaced the rear seal and the oil is still leaking.

I was hoping someone else might have some insight into this issue.

I really want my car back...

you need to look where its coming from. Could be anywhere.

rear cover housing where the new seal is. He put a new one in the oil leaked much less. He will now fit a another seal on and silicone it up.

Was oil leaking before Clutch was replaced?

Wasn't leaking.

It's identified and rear housing seal. After initial replacement it was still leaking. Added silicone still leaked but much less.

Installing new seal and going to apply more silicone.

It shouldnt need any silicone.

I would guess that he scratched the crankshaft on its sealing surface.

In that case its going to leak unless it comes out of the engine.

That or he keeps using 20 dollar chinese seals rather than OEM.

Could have damaged the housing surface, & leaking on the OD of the seal. Lot easier to damage that, being alloy, than the hard crank.

What would he be doing with tools in that area?

Regardless he probably let the apprentice mess it up.

You should get a guarantee on the work that was done. If you have not already done it go and speak to the guy face to face and see what he is proposing to fix it and a timeframe for return of the vehicle. Its up to him to find a solution. If there is a faulty seal or some other problem related to the clutch then the clutch supplier will replace the faulty parts to the installer. Its wise to at least record your conversations ( take some notes and dates) and its fair enough to emphasise that you need a resolution and get your car back. Normally if a seal is leaking it will simply be removed and replaced.

Even though the rear main plate has a rubber seal that seals to block surface it needs grey sealer in corners where sump meets block and a little on sump and block surfaces ( as from factory ) also what catches people out is they don't seal flywheel bolts with loctite, these go straight into sump cavity thru crank ( even though you do them up tight, if there is a scratch on crank or flywheel surface they will leak! ) genuine seals are the best I've found, cheap copies don't cut it. Also if your crank has a lip/grove from old seal, I've seen it before when you fit new seal it can run in and out of grove and tare new seal. Could need a speedy sleeve. Or as Dann said they have scratched seal surface with whatever he or she tried getting it out with. Speedy sleeve once again will fix if done properly without having to pull crank. But it is upto your mechanic to fix.... you break it, you fix it! For free!

Thanks for all the input and advise. I was hoping if anyone has experience with this situation what was the fix.

I assume both seals used are OEM as they were ordered through Mazda.

Why is there what looks to be copper seal silicon on crank and seal surface? Also has oil up at oil gallery bung, either oil is getting thrown up from crank or oil is coming from higher source

That picture has a new seal installed, but it still leaked. So he tried applying silicon, however it still leaked after but apparently not as much.

Is the silicon a bad thing?
