Hey guys

It's been years since I was able to start my car and drive it as I went to live abroad etc.

Now with covid and my return I wanted to try get my car started again.

It's a 1990 Na6 with 70000 kms. Compression on the motor is 170, 175, 175 and 175.

I found sludge in the fuel tank so I can replace the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter made sure the injectors were firing. I did a service on all fluids and replaced the spark plugs and oil filter.

At first it wasn't cranking so I got a 1.8lt starter motor. The car wouldn't hold idle so I got a replaced Idle control sensor. I noticed that if I disconnected the AFM I would be able to start the car and hold idle for 3 to 4 Minutes. When I did connect the AFM, the motor will start but would shut off as well. I then attempted to start the motor with out the AFM and then plug it in. As soon as I plugged it back in, it shut off.

I have now purchased the stock intake pipe and AFM from a reputable Mazda wrecker. The same issue has persisted. I have disconnected the battery in order to let the Ecu reset which did not work as well. Longest I managed to hold idle was 6 minutes and that was with no AFM connected.


Only modification to the motor is the Arc intake chamber. I still have the stock airbox on the motor.

Thoughts?

Any vacuum leaks, perished rubber hoses from the intake manifold?

Chino, is this the car you're referring to: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=54070 - if it is, it might explain why your car isn't doing what an NA6 usually does in terms of responding with the AFM disconnected. Think you'll find that in the build of your kit car that other changes/mods have been made, which means it won't necessarily respond as an NA6 normally would, making diagnosis more difficult. That said, if it's more standard the following might assist:

Triple checked those, replaced what was necessary.

Ahh thanks for that! I couldn't find my old build thread haha.
