query on Sportmax wheels

I brought a set over for my MX5 way back in 07, I ended up ditching them as they were just really sh*t wheels. I was never really happy with their build quality, and for them to look any good on your MX5 it had to be soo low that cops will be throwing defects at you.

I really only did it for the title though.

Oh snap! So stay away from Sportmax is the moral here I guess. I know they're cheap and they're heavy, but they're also one of the more popular wheels and sell a LOT. So i'd imagine a lot of people bought them for a reason (not just price). I know you tend to get what you pay for most cases, but sometimes there are some truly decent buys out there and was hoping maybe Sportmax might be one of them. They've made a good name for themself on the drift scene from what I've read. Which was partly why I was interested in them.

Are they really heavy? I thought the 002's were actually pretty lightweight.

They're for looks.
If you're happy with the looks and that's your priority, you'll probably be happy. You will have to be illegally low to make them look any good IMO.

Sorry guys, but what's the proper offset for the NA6 models?

Can the Sportmax be gotten in the "correct" offset for the MX5?

Stock offset is +45 IIRC. I've only seen Sportmax in +0, +15 and +25

Offset is entirely dependent on width. Stock offset is +45 on a 6" wide wheel? That will be 25mm different to +45 on an 8" wide wheel.

I believe the stock offsets were:
NA - +45 for both the 14x5.5" and 14x6" wheels
NB - +40 for both the 15x6" and 16x6.5" wheels

Yeah, you can get lighter wheels but for the size and width thats not bad, especially for the price. They look a lot nicer made than I had expected

They may be legal if you get them signed off by an engineer. I don't know the specific Victorian laws.

Call your governing agency and ask them.

Oh great, so 15x7 is fine then? I'll have to have a hunt around although I'm going to need to lower the car if I put them on. I love my watanabe's too much to take them off my car though!!!!!!!! Right now I have my red na6 on satin black watanabe f8's 14x6.5 I think. Now Idea on offset. I think it was +30? Not sure.

I bought a set of Sportmaxx 513's...15x7 +15. Weight 7.6kg per. I thought the finish on them was fine for what they are.

I'm not sure if I will keep them as the possiblity of finishing my build before returning to work is now a distant memory...I can see a set of Equip 03's in my near future...just got to figure out disc type, offset and someone to buy my 513's
