Hi all, the time has come to replace my tyres. The Michelin Precedas have 40,000k's on them and are just over 5 years old.
I will probably replace with the new PS3 and I have been quoted $205ea for 195/50R/15
From all reports the PS3 are an excellent tyre and the price seems OK too.
If anyone knows of a better deal Sth East of Melbourne, please let me know.
Thanks,
Col

Indeed an excellent tyre, I have them in 225/45-17 on my other car.

Good on ya Caffeine. I've never heard a bad word about these tyres. I guess 1 advantage of running 15" tyres is cheaper tyre prices too.
Apparantly Michelin prices are going up again 1st July, so I think I'll go ahead with these.
Regards,
Col

Don't know if it'll be a better deal, but pcmx5 recommends Associated Tyres @ Chelt.

I've never been a great fan of the Pilot Sport, I find it much like Grange Hermitage, Very nice but there are equals and better at more favourable prices.
Here is a 2011 tyre test which may have you rethinking

I previously had the continentals (3rd on that list) before the PS3's, and I'd rate the PS3's higher.

The problem with tests like this is that they are pretty subjective.
In this test linked above, the Hankook S1 ranks #1, P Zero #2, Continental Contact 3 #3 and Goodyear F1 #4
On the same site, go to the right and click on "2011 Autoreview Max Performance Summer Tyre Test" and you find that Continental 5P ranks #1, P Zero #2, Hankook S1 #3, Goodyear F1 #4 and the Bridgestone S001 #6.
Go again to the right and click on "2011 Subjective shootout" and you find that Goodyear F1 ranks #1, Continental 5P ranks #2 and the Bridgestone S001 #3.
Another thing to consider is that all the test were done on front wheel drive cars, Mazda 3 MPS (225x40x18) VW Sirocco (235x35x19) and the heavy Audi A7 (255x40x19). All tyres were of a size and profile that we wouldn’t fit on a light weight rear drive MX-5.
The Continental ranks very highly in all three tests (as it does in most tests I've read) but remember, European testers are heavily bias towards tyres that do well in the wet, as they should due to their road conditions. Here in AU we really need to look at dry weather performance in warm to hot conditions, over rutted, pot-holed roads that get the odd down pour or damp conditions.
On price, the RE001 that was great in the dry but fell down badly in the wet when compared to PP2’s and T1Rs. Of the three the Michelins were the best tyre I’ve had on an MX-5.

Re: Michelin PS3
Thank you all for your feedback. I have backordered the PS3's with Michelin at an even $200 ea. Michelin are currently out of stock....due July 13th. I am happy to wait for new stock and it should mean the tyres have been manufactured recently, so not sitting in storage for any length of time. My last set of Michelins cost me just under $10 per month over 63 mths and 40,000k's. Can't complain about that.

Re: Michelin PS3
I bought PS3 in 205/50/16 for $225.00 each at Tyre Power up here in Sydney.
I have done nearly 10,000Km on them and I think they are a great.
You wont be dissapointed in them.
