tyre/wheel combo and guard clearance

Postby pwblacklock » Mon Sep 26, 2011 2:17 pm

Dear Mixers,
I am considering purchasing a set of MX5 Mania's SR 513 wheels, -15mm offset (minilite lookalikes) to be fitted to a set of 195/50x15 tyres.
I know the combo will look good but I am concerned about clearance with my stock suspension 1989 Eunos Roadster guards. My concern is hitting a bump with steering lock on.
Does anyone out there have experience with these wheels and tyres on a stock NA and can comment on whether they clear ok ?

Thanks,
Phillip

Just put 15 X 7 +30 with 195 50's and they sit pretty flush. Those will stick out an extra 45mm

I've seen +0 offset on a stock NA with some serious guard pulling and neg camber, but I think anything lower than that will require the bodywork to be cut and flares fitted.

Stock I think is +35, so you're going an extra 50mm out! I think you will be needing major work.

I think I should have stated the offset as +15mm.(stock is +45mm)

What wheels are yours and where did you source them from

Rota RB's from Ebay in the states, $660 Delivered.
Stock I think is +35

(stock is +45mm)

Now this is the problem I had when I was deciding what to get, Everyone has a different opinion on what is standard
I would have thought that the offset was common knowledge

Stock offset for an NA is +45. Source.

15x8 +15 will fit, but like I said, you'll need to roll/pull the guards, and you might need to run a bit of neg camber to tuck it in, depending on how low you go.

Stock NA is 45, NB 40 and NC 55.
15x7 Rb's with 205/50 x15's fit ok (NA)as per johnd's car but anything wider on a reasonable alignment will probably need some rolling of the guard.
If you go back to 195's obviously you can go back lower than 35 to 30 perhaps but with most people liking their 35/30 et with 195/205's that may be the safer and better handling way to go if you don't want to have to roll guards or dial in heaps of negative camber.

I've got 15x8 -0 and had to do some serious rolling and pulling and a butt load of neg camber, since then I've ordered some flares, so if your going -14 depending of the actual wheel width you might be looking at some flares
