i saw those Maxxis on a 5 when we had our weekend cruise. i like them lots! might consider a set. are they light'ish?

Yes, they are light and strong.
I couldn't tell you the exact weight, but they are quite light when you pick them up.

You can get them from Tempe Tyres for a a very reasonable price too.

You can check on the Tempe Tyres website http://www.tempetyres.com.au, but I think they only come in 17".

They are really easy to clean too.

That'd definitely lighten things up a bit. I wonder whether it's a good idea having the brakes on a smaller rotation though. I get the feeling having the brakes where they are on cars is better than having them on a smaller gear.

Aim:
To weigh both my stock wheels and my Enkei RPF1 wheels, and find out how much they weigh.

Method:
Please note the following, sorry if it seems a bit anal.

Both have air at 32 psi inflated at 25.2 degrees C (air has mass, hot air weigh less)
Both have respective valve caps
Both have been balanced with weights for the rubber.
Both have been weighed with their respective center caps in place
Enkei does NOT have the hubcentric rings, I have been running without them and everything seems to be ok thus far.
Stock MX5 wheel has: RE001 with 205 45 R 16
Enkei RPF1 wheel has: RE001 with 215 40 R 17
Both Bridgestone RE001 are jap spec and have aproximately the same amout of tread, measured with a 50c coin as a standard.
All wheels tested had been cleaned to remove break dust etc that may have affected the results.
All wheels tested are in PERFECT condition no weight was removed due to gutter rash etc.
I have weighed two sets of wheels to gain an average.

Results:
Results are displayed in grams...

Discussion/Conclusion:

The results indicate that that the weight of the 17" Enkei RPF1 is slighly less than the MX5 16".
The weight differenc is minimal however, the enkei has a 215 tread whereas the stock wheel has 205.

I've been riding on the enkeis for a week or so, the lower porfile rubber gives a noticably more "bumpy" ride. Initial turn in is nice and noticably shaper than stock wheels. When put side by side (last pic) the enkei is slightly wider in total diameter by about 1 cm or so, it hasnt hit the guards or scrapped anything at full lock, or during cornering.
To save weight you have to go down in size or get lighter rims in the same size.
