What price should I be aiming to get on a set? I just need to decide if I'll go for 14's on stock wheels or get some light 15's for them.
We took a completely stock R31 Skyline GTS2 out to Winton on saturday, only mod was R888's, it had a stupid amount of grip... I thought the semi's I ran on my DR30 a few years ago were good, these were terrific!
It did a 1:16.5 on the short course if anyone can compare that to a 5

Over $1200 last time I priced them up in 205/50/15. Though they're still one of the cheaper semi slicks. Most are upto $1300+ now.

Good cheap bread and butter R-specs. Good and grippy for 4 or 5 laps. Pretty comparable times to all the other R-specs. Good life, mine have lasted 8 or 9 meetings before they started to go off.

The MX5Vic club record for Modifieds is 1:10.5 on the short course by Sam in an NB8A with R-specs, suspension mods and not much else.

Next time check the MX5Vic club pages, We were running at Sandown on the Sunday.

R888s have gone up in price quite a bit since start of year.
I bought a set of 205/50/15 R888s in Oct last year and they cost $270 each.
Priced them again last month and the best I could do was $320ea, with most quoting $360..

A few months ago there was a temporary shortage of stock of 205/50R15 Proxes R888. There is plenty of stock available now.
RRP for 205/50R15 Proxes R888is $320 incl. GST per tyre, plus fitting.

Has anyone done a comparison between the Kumho KU36 and the V710 with regards to grip levels?
Obviously the V70A is the best but how far behind is the KU36?

i have only read that the ku36 is a good bang for buck tyre and is a little down on dry grip from the AD07's. As for the V710 i would think its not really the same thing as the KU36 is not a semi slick by the same standards that the V710 is.

Just observations from last weekend at Sandown, Phil. There were 2 similar drivers with almost identical cars in our stockish Clubman class running neck and neck all day, one on KU36s, one on RE001 Adrenalins. Early track wettish, late track dry, maybe a tiny edge to the Adrenalins in the damp, KU36s did better times dry. Times were approaching a class record, but still a couple of seconds or more off average r-spec times.

The V710 is the kumho with 2 circumferential grooves and no other tread I thought (I'm currently using the V700). It's basically a slick...I'd go as far to say it'd be between a full slick and semi slick. When I talked to the kumho dealer he said they don't live very long though. They're done in quite a soft compound.

Thanks guys for the information. i just realiaed I had two different types of semi slick, 70A & 710, in my post.
I'm just looking for alternative for my shagged D01s. They've gone off after almost 18 months of racing and need replacing for next year if I'm going to keep Mark in sight. Not bad considering what I paid for them. I think I got used to the falling grip level until the penny dropped when coming down the hill at Wakefield into Turn 6 and correcting for oversteer that had never been there before.

I'm picking up a set of V70A's this week or next after going through AO48s, RE55s's and R888's.
I'm keen to see how they perform compared to the others as I've only read good things about them. Will let you know if you like.
