Looking at buying a 2000 series 2 mx5. It has been modified with 18 inch wheels and custom king springs. To obtain the roadworthy the current owner has to install the original springs becuse the car was too low. Is anyone aware of any issues with having 18 inch wheels on an mx5 or the combination of those wheels and the original springs.

If you are aware of any issues or have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

First 'issue' that comes to mind is that it will look like a jacked up off road vehicle. Other than that, enjoy your new car.

my suggestion is to loose the 18" rims & totally agree with what d-mag said.

also what state are you in? & what wheel & tyre size combo do you have on those 18"s

I have attatched the advertisement for the mx5 that im looking at. These are all the details that i know about the car. I am in victoria btw. So ppl are thinking its going to look jacked up like a 4wd car. How high are we talking here? Is there going to be a huge gap between tyre and wheel arch?

not sure about victoria but in NSW ur only allowed to go + or - 1 inch of the rim size..

if you put in smaller rims, ur car will sit VERY low..

sliq is going to get a clip behind the ear.

Vic law is max 25mm wider, and 15mm change in rolling diameter (from memory!)

That's fairly expensive for an NB8B isn't it?

It should be fine, but it won't handle anything like a stock one.

price isnt that bad for an 8B with 99,000km

when I was looking about 6 months ago 8a's were about $15-20k, and 8b's were about $18-25k

Paid less than that for my 2001 NB8B complete with hardtop in Feb 09, same K's, good condition and stock.

Don't forget you are looking at between $600 to a grand for the 100K service plus ORC.

I think it looks awesome. With the original springs in it will look jacked up but just pop the kings back in and it will be sweet again. Must be fairly low for the springs to need to come out ie less than 100mm height. Just for reference, I had a NA6 with 17's and just a bit less than 100mm height and the handling was still superb. Depends on the weight of the wheels though. I had chromies for a couple of months and that destroyed the car handling wise as well as acceleration wise. Buy it, buy it now
