I think you will find that Michelin PS3 are the tyre of choice for NCs. They were also the standout winner in the WHEELS magazine Tyre Test (June 2011). It was the best tyre in terms of dry slalom, dry braking, wet braking, wet cornering and noise. In the only tests the PS3 did not win, it finished a close second to Continental Sport Contact 2: wet slalom and dry cornering. If you can afford them, get the PS3s.

From left field, you might consider Kumho KU39 too. I have them on my 135i. They're very cheap, and grip well in the dry and wet. They finished 3rd in the WHEELS Tyre Test which is remarkable considering their price, but they were judged a bit noisier than the PS3. In my opinion, you will not notice their road noise - I can barely hear it in my car and I have much more sound deadening than an NC. I expect the wind buffetting in the NC will easily mask any tyre noise.

Without doubt the Michelin PS3 is the best tyre you can buy locally for the NC but...............the cost is $1,120 for four tyres, supplied and fitted. ($280ea.)

Sitting in the FedEx Mascot Sorting facilities, I have a set of these in 215x45x17 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... uper+Sport They were shipped 5 days ago!!!

All up cost is $1025USD plus Bank wire transfer fee plus $60AU to fit and balance.

So for slightly less than the locally supplied PS3 I get the top of the rung Michelin tyre, that if you go on Tire Rack's test, comes out as the best performance tyre on the market

and it has a wear rating of 300.

They should arrive at home either today or tomorrow and I'll have them fitted next weekend. After the normal run in period to get rid of the release fluid I'll let you know if they match all the hype they have received over the last few months world wide.

I should add that we can get the Pilot Super Sport in Australia but only from 18" up and the price is HUGE. The smallest size in the PSS is 215x45x17.
