Rims (noob)

Ok i dont know anything about tyres and rims and what not .. i know if it look sgood its good. If its JDM or sexspec etc...

By the end of the year i plan to get rims, something either brand new, second hand doesnt matter. JDM style.. nothing big probably a 16 ( <- preffered) or 17inch no smaller with low profile tyres. i got a few questions
q1) i always hear things like 2 piece, 1 piece, 3 piece etc... Whats better ? (I understand that it means its made of this many pieces i think?)

q2) 350z a car with FAT rears but and normal fronts (this is what i want), But i dont want to do what the other cars do and have my wheels sticking out. I like my wheels where they are i just want them to stretch INWARDS, So obviously i need fat tyres.. for the rears but how much can i put ? If i have to get the guards rolled or something im very willing to do so. But can a guard roller, bash it INWARDS?

q3) rears i plan to get sh*t tyres simply because i love having fun in the rain and i do not track my car. Fronts i plan to get something decent at a REASONABLE price>> Recommendations (something sticky in wet and good in dry) :)

1- Yep, its the amount of pieces they are made of. for a street car it makes no difference.
3 piece wheels are able to have the rim changed but the centres kept to change width of offset, and ideally the wheel will be made of magnesium while the rim itself will be steel based. This is to make the lightest possible wheel.

2-A guard roller cant 'bash inwards' because the limiting factor on the inside is that the tyre and wheel will hit the damper. but you can comfortably run 245's with a guard roll.

3- Buy whatever is cheapest for the back, and buy some KU36 or similar for the front.

I can see an accident coming up because these suckers are sooo easy to spin 180 in the wet. Ask me how I know :D

Needs WAY more practice.

I head to a nice private racetrack my mate owns.... at about 2am once a month or so when it rains and spend an hour or so practicing, I can hold 3rd really easy now and 4th with plenty of clutch kicks. 4th obviously, is very fast.

Needs more practice :)

Yes, it refers to the number of pieces the wheel is made from. For most people the difference is nil. As Dan mentioned, it's more to do with easier to get different offsets/widths

Do some googling and read about offset, how it works, etc.
then get a tape measure and see how much room you've got to work with under the guards (take into account that the suspension moves)

if you're getting crap tyres on the back there's no point getting something super sticky on the front.
the rears will be sliding around at some low speed like 20kph and the fronts won't need heaps of grip to keep up.

As for the fun in the rain on public roads, there are much easier ways to go and kill yourself that won't put our insurance premiums up.
I've heard cliffdiving is fun.

I lol at everyones comments regarding him having fun in the wet.

All of your comments are probably encouraging to him, they would have been to me at one point.

Who doesnt give it a bit of an extra squirt around a tight second gear corner after a sprinkle every now and then. Come on, honestly.

...not sure if serious? Even if this is just a joke I'll take the bait - Instead of 'beating the rear guards inwards' you could simply just buy wider wheels, of a higher offset, for the rear... However in saying that I'm not sure why you want wide rear wheels (and tyres) if you plan on being able to lose traction easily... Just stick with the stock 185's and call it a day. I seriously hope the OP is just joking with this thread :|

I dont know to well about wheels/tyres etc..

I know very well how to drive.

I have a very HIGH COMMON SENSE.
MX5s are slow .. unless you give it your not gonna DIE and spin out. You gotta be plan stupid to. Its hard to lose control unless your going 100ks in a corner.. anything under 60 is very easy to keep.

Read the thread before u ask "WIDER WHEELS IS WHAT IM GONNA GET" my question was just that.. i dont want them TO STICKOUT coz in my opinion on an NB rims that stickout dont really look the best it looks great on NA's and CIVICs and Integra's.

Why i want the wider wheels is just.. simply for looks, looks cool.

SO just to be straight...

In conclusion there is no way .. to go INWARDS only outwards when it comes to fat tyres/wheels (i have to say wheels just to make ppl happy). but a 195/45 should fit.
2 piece and sh*t ..is not important for street cars especially people like me.

KU36 tyres for the front

195 are not wide on a miata. 275 is.

You cannot use a machine to get extra clearance on the inside but stock wheels have like...1.5inches or more extra clearance already, as in, you can go 1.5 inches further inward than stock just by fitting wider wheels.

Oh wow... you were being serious :?

Yeah... Hence why i said wider wheels with a HIGHER offset. A 15x9 +36 (which should fit under stock guards with a bit of camber/rolling/pulling with 225s) will stick out as much as a 15x7 +12 wheel. Hence if you increase the offset of the rear wheel you can have your sick looking wide rear wheels without having them stick out from the guards.

In for pictures of this car wrapped around a tree in the next 2 months!
