A mate of mine has an SE which runs AP racing brakes with 330mm rotors I think and requires 17 inch wheels to clear brakes. Looking to replace the slightly bent and abused factory Racing Harts. The car will be run at the track and currently runs V70 205/40/17 and will probably continue to do so. Looking to see what spec/brand other people run or anyone with a bit of offset/width advice is welcome.

It's as simple as choose a wheel you like the look of.
Check if it's available in the specs you want.
Buy 4 of them.


The 949 racing wheels seem a common choice, and I seem to recall them being available in a 17inch diameter.

The 17" 6ULs are for the NC.

949racing designed the 15" 6ULs specifically for the NA/NBs.

IDK if the 15" 6ULs will clear your brakes though - they do clear my Wilwood front brakes and rear "Big Brake Kit".

OP: Tell your mate to switch to 15" rims for trackwork, they're lighter, there's more tyre choices available and they're cheaper - all important factors for trackwork (especially tyres since they're consumables).

PS: I toned this down quite a bit from what I intended to write regarding those 17" Racing Harts boat anchors.

Exchange rate could be a killer though.
Goodwin racing has a good guide of what 15's etc fit over big brakes too so if he does want to go to a smaller rim there are options

Plenty of 17" wheels that will work on your car and won't be boat anchors, no matter what some others may say.......

With 330mm rotors you won't be dropping the wheel size to 15" wheels anyway and 16" tyres are harder to come by than 17" tyres in general.

Look for a good brands of wheel, though the 4x100 PCD may limit you a little. I would recommend brands like Enkei, or Koya or even Rota as I know people who have used all three brands on the track and haven't died yet.....

Personally I use Enkeis in 15" and 16" on my NA6, I have used Enkeis on my S14 in 17" and will be buying Koya wheels in 18x9 for my S14 race car with the advantage that I can get the wheels machined up to suit the offset I need exactly for the car and to front and rear if required. They are also reasonably light and seem to be very good bang for your buck.

I was struggling finding much in 4x100 and 17

the Koya racing look interesting especially with choice of offset. Can anyone tell me standard specs for the Racing Hart's, can't remember if they are 7 or 7.5 wide and what the offset is?

it is a pretty common size. before most small cars went to 5x114.3. so from about 1900-2005 you'd pick them up anywhere. all wheel shops still have them. loads on ebay. loads on yahoo japan.

I had a good hard look before spraying up my Racing Harts and a lot of designs are gross (*to me) or in the 'insane' level of cost.

edit: Also why have I never heard of Koya?? Some of those look great! (and come in white )

Because they are a relatively new comer to the Australian market, and haven't had the flat brimmed internet fame that Rota has......

I've been seeing Koya wheels on Silvias since the early 2000s
The Koya Driftek was for a time the default wheel choice for them almost.

Koya ain't new.

For an old bloke like me, that's still relatively new......

I'm used to old school wheels no longer easy to get like the Rebel Wheels from Unanderra near Wollongong, or the proper Simmons wheels or Mawer wheels, or the original Hotwires and so on.

Or the original Minilites, made out of magnesium and scary expensive nowadays in a 15x8 with proper offsets for proper old school muscle cars.....
